Hi this is my 1st post here, I'v played ffxi for about 2 years 2003-2005 all though i didnt make it to 75 ***** you thief!) i absolutely loved the game. When i heard about FFXIV i was so excited to play it, but then it failed lol. I'v only been following the recent developments since late march mostly lurking forums, and i am pretty sure im gonna buy it for PS3. My questions are how many people stopped playing but is thinking of returning once it gets good? How many people have yet to play and are watching its development (fellow lurkers), and how many people have yet to play because of computer restrictions and is planning to try the ps3 release?

I'm one (of I believe many)who are seldomly playing until patch 1.18 or 1.19 which should happen in 1 - 3 months - hopefully 1-2 months. I play once in a while, but basically got a large grind out of the way and taking a healthy break. Although I rarely play now, I very much look forward to returning for these two patches.

Like many...I quit a few months ago and am waiting. And like most, I have my own laundry list of things that I feel I want fixed in order to play. We all seem to have that internal list. My gut tells me the game will survive...but we are talking years before it gets to where FFXI was at its best.

Guilty. I think this game stinks in its current form, but I've long been a fan of the final fantasy series. I've logged countless hours into FFXI and had an overall great time in that game. I've been keeping my eye on the development of FFXIV in hopes of seeing it turn out to be as wondrous a gaming experience as FFXI.

Been losing hope fast.

Like many others, I am also watching on the sidelines. I truly have high hopes that this game will turn around. I like most of the ideas that Yoshida plans to implement, so I'm optimistic for the future of XIV.

Me. I only bought it a month or so ago (saw it on a good sale), and it's just too slow, clumsy, and dull to play right now.

I've been mostly watching - and playing XI.

Decided to give the game a solid chance tonight - just play it for awhile without getting caught up in anything much. This is the first time I have spent more than an half hour on it since like a month before the tsunami.

After tooling around fishing for a bit I decided making tree toad legs would be fun - because they are so stupidly pointless (unless people have miraculously started thinking food is useful since I left)

So I teleported to Gridania because I don't believe for a second anyone in uldah is selling tree toads. As soon as I got there someone offered 30K to teleport them to bald knoll - which I had so I took them (why not, anima is free I had like 97) and then warped back to grid.

Checked the wards 2 tree toads for 200 gil each. I don't even know why people bother. I think I will buy them later to troll them into thinking anyone will want tree frogs again.

So, I decided to fish the frogs up, a couple midge baskets later I have several +1 and +2 frogs. I noticed some exclaimation marks on my map - the botanist's guild. Aw... what the heck, I think, and go check em out.

Anyway - have to say I've been really impressed with the story that is unfolding so far. Also I am a convert to the ! - if only because I don't need widescan and wiki to find npcs for the next bit of the story.

I stopped logging in a couple months ago but I still check in once or twice a week, every week, to keep up with the development. I fully intend on playing some day down the road, but for now would rather wait until significant changes have been made to log in again, instead of logging in every week or so just to be frustrated and underwhelmed. If I stay away until the game is in better shape, I feel like I can come back and be pleased and get into it. If I keep coming back after every update I'm just going to burn myself out and lose hope.

I played XI forEVER and would love to just start over with that and have something to play, but I'd be alone and I don't think I'd make it lol

If anyone wants to start playing FFXI together, I'd be down to start her up again though. I still have all the software and could be playing tomorrow.

I log on about once every 1-2 weeks at the moment, but plan on playing more when the big patches come through. The lore is cool, the combat ideas are good, it just needs the polish that it should have been given before a major release. So I'm with you on the sidelines watching; my morning ritual is to wake up and check the lodestone for new info, then check this site for any new info.
In the mean time, I've been playing a lot of console games, Infamous 2, Dungeon Siege 3, Mortal Kombat, and SOCOM 4 are all decent and have come out in the last 2 months or so.

I give the game a short "chance" after every update just to see if anything noteworthy has happened, but nothing so far has enticed me enough to keep me playing. Eagerly awaiting 1.18, but it seems to be coming far too slow, and I can't imagine it having enough changes to change anything.

I check Loadstone at least once per week. Game is still lagging behind every other MMO and I don't think 1.18 or 1.19 is going to bring me back. Only 2.0 or PS3 release will grab my interest.

Ehe, I guess im guilty as charged too.

To be honest, I think its the obviously grindy nature which got to me. I played FFXI and had several level 75 jobs before I quit (This was pre-99 cap), including relic armors, elemental obis and the like. I could live with its grindy nature, mostly, because battles were interesting and the game largely promoted team work over soloing.

Unfortunately, when I log onto FFXI I find myself caught in the same loop. Levequests, Local levelquests for crafting, tedium, log out. The combat lacks impact in its present state and repeating leves is too dull to hold my interest for long. They are certainly fleshing out the game with proper quests, but the combat aspect is still a bit of a put off for me.

That is why im strongly looking forward to the 1.8 update. I'll certainly be giving it a try to see if they've nailed it. Who knows, I might fall in love with the game all over again.

I passively played since launch but now that i got into the rhythm of behesting or leve-linking i made it to 40 in the last 2 months. At first i was nervous if the game failed i'd feel like i've wasted my time, but to be honest the pace of leveling is pretty good and while my small goals of equipping new armors or getting new skills may not be enough for many its still nice to progress at a steady pace while not demanding the need to devote long play sessions.

It's not that I dislike the game, I could probably quite happily play, but at the moment I'm thinking, if all of this is going to change, for the good, in the future then what's the point in doing it now.

Which why I really hope the game eventually takes off, otherwise I'll kick myself for not trying it properly while I had the chance.

I've been watching from the sidelines since release for the same reason. Why bother grinding now when I can just grind later (and probably have fun)? I'm sure it's not going to get harder to level up, it'll probably just get easier.

I play from time to time, but I am not hardcore all the time because there isn't much content. I hope with 1.18 and 1.19 they add enough to get me interested again. In the interim I have been doing some serious mtb and playing FF6 and other oldies for fun and nostalgia.

Yep, I fall into this category also. I played in Closed and Open Beta, then played from early launch up until about February or March (can't remember exactly when). I'm still very interested in the future of this game, but until they add a LOT more content, I probably won't be coming back, and will instead go back to playing ffxi... especially since I just found out last night that I am getting my old account back. =D

Same. Actually the discussion about FFXIV is way more interesting than the game at this point. Especially since SE is essentially now creating a game based off of our ideas and suggestions.

I was briefly considering playing FFXI again, because it has shaped into the game that I though FFXIV should have been from the start.

I used to log in every patch and see whats up, but I stopped doing that a few patches ago. I basically check here because its part of my "i'm bored" bookmarks, and occasionally a good discussion will come up.

It's great to see so many people havent given up hope yet, my main reason for creating this thread was to create a playerbase returning sort of hype for this game. I believe if people see that other people are indeed still interested in the game then it will create another incentive to return. So lurkers viewing this thread with or without a account please post that you are still here with us! Lets do our part as the playerbase to revive this game!

I don't think SE is really concerned with any hype or playerbase at this point in time. Basically they've created an extended Beta to allow for more breathing room. They say they want to bring fees back when the playerbase is satisfied, but to be honest I don't think they'll receive that kind of supportive feedback.

I personally think their best bet for revitalizing the game would be a major PR push once all the major known issues are out of the way (battle mechanics, class balance, server issues, UI optimization, PC UI upgrades, crafting/gathering balance, etc.) However, as we all know, SE really doesn't push their games too much outside of Japan and so I'm not expecting a huge rebound for this game. I see the game succeeding, and becoming a decent MMO with a fairly consistant playerbase, but they simply shot themselves in the foot by pushing the release to coincide with quarterly/yearly forecasts. The game will be fine, but it will never come full circle and develop a large playerbase.

Now, with that being said, I personally still play and have fun with the game. I've concentrated on getting certain classes to points to coincide with the upcoming dungeons (r. 30 tanks & r. 50 DDs respectively). The game looks beautiful, and certainly has potential, and I'll probably play it for a while as I'm interested to see it be developed along the way, it's a rare chance to see an MMO in the works from (almost) the ground up. I do hope this game can become something solid. It doesn't need to be the next big thing by any means, provided it has good communities and a consistant playerbase, then I think the game will work out fine.

I've seen many posts on the official forums where players are upset because their online friends are decreasing, and one of the main reasons they continue playing is because of the social interaction they have with their Linkshells. So its probably nice to know that the people who have left are still watching the game closely.

I'm another one still kind of watching. Waiting. I don't know what to make of the game right now or Yoshi-P's vision, but some things he's said I can get on board with.

There are still a few dealbreakers at the moment, but if those were to go away I could see myself slipping back into another decade of playing a Square Enix mmo.

We'll see.

I check about once a week.

Sadly, the huge PC specs mean that my semi-decent laptop, while being able to run XIV, can only run it at a pre-PSX level resolution if I want a decent frame rate.

This 1.18 patch, from how it reads, appears to be possibly the defining moment (or one of them) in XIV's lifespan. I'm intrigued as to what the actual contents of the patch will be.

But, as my PC can't run it well enough to play it, and I'm not spending cash on it just to play XIV in a higher resolution, AND I don't have a PS3, I'm not going to be returning any time soon.

I'm not giving up on the game though. Maybe one day I'll come back.

I'm watching and waiting, too. Now and then I get tempted to play a bit, but with overhauls planned for major game systems, I think I'll just wait until S-E starts to put them in, and then learn how to play my character the New Way. I didn't get all that far at launch, so I'll probably reroll when the time comes.

On the bright side: Since FFXIV launched, I've had CPU and video card upgrades that make the game engine run really smoothly, even at high resolution. Bring on the updates, I'm ready! \<^_^>/

Currently sitting and waiting to see what direction XIV takes, as well as 1.18. I am checking the lodestone every morning 6am local time (mountain) to see if something is new. As well as following and reading every morsel that pops up. How ever am not just waiting, i piked up another MMO to eat my time as i wait. Now it's up to SE to make me cancel this new subscription by making a game that can not be overlooked.

I have been wanting this game so bad to exist even while playing FFXI, thinking to myself what do they have for us in the future cause this game rocks, that was in 2005-2006. I got to experience quite a bit and FFXI to me was full of great memories but I strayed away from it eventually but I freaking loved that game. Anyways I have been following this game for YEARS even back when it was hush hush Rapture, or just April fools pictures lol even if FFXIV was not love at first sight like I had with FFXI. I hold out hope things will improve and one day it will provide us with its own epic story, and countless other odd ball adventures we can call friends. I am more of the type of person who likes the journey rather then end results, but so far following FFXIV since its Alpha and Beta to present day on forums is a pandora's box. I am STILL..... awaiting the day we see a finished Final Fantasy that will have been built by love and not greed, I can pop in my PS3 and play. Until then I will be resisting the urge to buy a new comp and play PC there is still hope, so I will continue to watch over this game...

This game needs more TRAVELING JAKE!

Waiting on 1.18 to return, didn't feel like downloading the last small patch, so I'm going to save myself the trouble and wait for at least 1.18 to arrive before I return.

I was still having fun daily, and kinda miss it, but I decided to clear my pile of anime, tv series and games that have been on hold for too long. One last disc before I'm done with Fringe season 1, so I'll get right up to that now.

Eventually, I may give myself a kick in the rear to finish FF13. I recently hit Gran Pulse, and have been doing Cie'th stones, I guess I can't be far from being done now...

Unfortunately, I try to update my friends about it, and they've all un-installed the game and say they're officially done with it.

Either way, it doesnt matter. Japan is sinking, most to all electronics are going to fail and the world ends in about a year and 6 months, possibly sooner.. :P

Same here, I am one of those smart ones who decided not to quit XI and carry on playing before I went all out for XIV. We know the result.

I wont pick up XIV time for a while, want to see many additions before I do but I do have an account and might occasionally pop on.

I've been a watcher since right before Christmas. I wish I could be as positive as the rest of you, but I can't. SE has given themselves until PS3 launch (according to the two recent JP mag. interviews) to fix the game or they're scrapping it. Many theorize that launch will be within the next 3-4 months, and if that's the case, I don't see the game being saved. They still have way too many things to fix before PS3 launch, and as slow as updates have been, there's a 1% chance in **** they'll pull it off. Now...if they're not releasing PS3 until Sep. 2012...that's a whole new story.

I'm amazed at how many people are waiting on a ps3 release.

I still have an active account, and I've been pretty good about logging in to download the patches, but that's about it. I just feel far more compelled to play FFXI than XIV. I'm definitely keeping an eye on the development, though, and I am for sure going to give it a fair shot once it goes pay-to-play before deciding to stick with it or give up on it.
