I played through Beta. When everyone realized they were going to release the game in the state we were playing it in, I never bothered logging back in.

That said, I'll consider buying it IF its worth playing and IF there are enough people around to group with. I suspect the former could happen in a year or two. The latter is going to be much tougher to call. Most games that flop at the start never recover.

Keeping an eye on it. Optimism is growing ever so slowly, but perhaps not quick enough to ever escape the pit it was thrown into.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I still have an active account, and I've been pretty good about logging in to download the patches, but that's about it. I just feel far more compelled to play FFXI than XIV. I'm definitely keeping an eye on the development, though, and I am for sure going to give it a fair shot once it goes pay-to-play before deciding to stick with it or give up on it.

Pretty much the exact same thing for me, minus the playing FFXI part.

bsphil, I'm sceptical as to whether it will even be released on PS3.

Why throw money at a sinking ship?

Then again, why throw money at this at all.

On a side note, I decided to start playing XIII again as well. I'm only at Chapter 5, but I'm having so much fun. I don't know why i didn't like it the first time...

Yeah, I just replayed FFXIII a couple months ago and had a great time. Though, I did the first time around as well. I ended up stopping around mission 55~ and just never got back into it. Not that big of a shocker though, I almost never go for 100% completion in games, I just get too bored.

Yup. Still hanging around. Bad smell lingering, and all that.

That said, I remain under the impression this game still has a marathon to run, fan-wise.

I've been logging on just to see if my retainers sold anything, but in reality, I come online cause I feel like I should log on. I log off 5 minutes afterwards >_< Waiting for patch but I'm sceptical about it being as 'revolutionary' as people have been hyping about. It'll bring battle changes (which don't matter that much to me honestly) and some more content which I suspect to be entertaining for 2 weeks at best. Fingers crossed I'm wrong....

It's been a while since I logged in, I've been kinda keeping my eye on the game though. In part so I know when I need to bother to either kill my sub or actualy start logginf in again.

As an avid RPer one of the things that hurt my desire to play was actualy the death of Open RP on Besaid... for some reason everyone just clammed up and only RPed with thier little group over private channels.
I spent the better part of three weeks walking around, openly RPing, hopeing for contact but even the people I know belonged to RP shells just stood there faceing eachother in thier own little world.
I know that alot of people don't care and even some are downright thrilled that the RPers aren't visable anymore but it deeply saddened me to see everyone either so scared or so selfish that they wouldn't even say hello.

I plan to give the game another try either after the big changes or after the PS3 release, it is my hope that not only will the game have improved but the RPers will be less afraid to show who they are.

If the game continues to exist, there will be a PS3 release.

I suspect a lot of people will start playing at the PS3 launch, including many current PC gamers who are waiting for a good time to start over again. In the meantime, I'm doing a lot of extra work in my free time because I really don't want to start another MMO until Guild Wars II comes out.

I might log into FFXIV today and do a few crafts, but meh... I have no social reasons to log in, so I'd rather just wait until after 1.18.

What else does FFXIV have going for it?

It seems to be the general consensus, from what I've read here at least, that people who have spent any amount of time in the game have stayed with it for one major reason: The people they play with.

I'm not arguing that the social tools available to players are...paltry. Nor am I defending the lack of content/things for groups of players to do. But I'm of the opinion that the social aspect is all XIV has going for it right now. At least in regards to player retention.

Which speaks volumes in regards to the players, rather than saying anything flattering about the current state of the game.

Uninstalled 3-4 months ago and personally, I still see nothing in the future that merits installing the game again. I do however check the lodestone and these forums every couple weeks. I still hope this game will eventually be what we all hoped it would but i doubt it. Hopefully i am wrong though.. i will probably install the game when this "golden patch" gets released to at least check it out.

I still watch it, though I've developed a strange sort of hatred toward it and SE. I want it to succeed but with every "bug fix" patch I begin to feel more and more animosity toward the whole project. Maybe because I looked forward to it for so many years only to be extremely disappointed. I almost felt offended by what we were given when we've been buying and playing Final Fantasy games for over 20 years.

I'm sure that may sound like a strange way to react to a video game but I'm sure there are a few here who can relate.

I just logged in yesterday and did some guild leves. Last time I did that was three weeks ago and before that another three weeks.

In its current state I do not get any joy out of the game. I saw ls members talking about "getting drops" from some NM and one ls member respond with "all I need is the XXX and a XXX and I am set" and I didn't have a clue what they were talking about. But I am a rank 30 Con, so all I can do is listen to what the big guys with multiple 50's are talking about. Same goes for that only [leve link] request I saw yesterday: for > 44. So not for me. Leves/behest bore tehell out of me since day...three(?) ...after doing them for the first time because you don't even need to think and just run after guy who is at the spawn spots first and spam things. Not kinking leves/behest means very slow progress, period, especially during the time when you needed to repair stuff every 30 minutes.

There is almost zero involvement with ls members nor with the game. Even a "hi" does not get any response because those people are probably in two other ls's. And again, because of the current state of the game, I am not going to make an effort to try to make this aspect of the game slightly more enjoyable for me. All I will do every now and then is log in, post my unanswered Hi's and see if everything is still the same.

Patch 1.18 (followed by 1.19) is going to be very important to me. If it doesn't give me back that "can't wait to log back in" feeling thennn...I truly give up hope.

I took off in late December.
I got the email about the change in leadership on a Friday morning on my walk to work, and by the time I'd arrived, I'd decided that I needed time out. I kept up with the development notes, and I took part in both polls, and read all the letters.

In early May, I started up again, picked up from where I'd left off. The remaining folks in my LS were now all max rank and still going, so it was actually quite fun to be back. I liked the lore in the new quests, the targeting changes were pretty well done, and the client stability had increased enormously. I'm actually glad I've been playing (two or three times a week) since May, because I think it'll be interesting to be able to compare the pre-1.18 to post.

Yeah, SE also stated that the PS3 version would be released along side the PC version. And said the game would be casual friendly. And fun.

You might be willing to trust SE's word on things, but I don't think people ought to.

I played the beta. I liked the prospect of leves, and I liked the character I made, though I'm still disappointed that they kept the same races from FFXI, and while the color pallets are a nice touch, the design options left much to be desired. But same for me as most people, I stopped after beta because of the state of the game. And, because I am also waiting for the PS3 release. But for now, I'm just lurking here keeping an eye on development.

Played the game pretty regularly from launch until March then completely stopped. I check these boards every few weeks but that's about it. Just about to boot up the game for the first time in over 3 months. Even if it's still not fun at least it will more gorgeous than most of the games I've played since. Honestly, if this wasn't a main line Final Fantasy game I'd have no time for it at all!

I have an interesting story and I know Leeloo and Ayase know this. We had a guy in our LS who claimed to be a very large investor to SE. Anyway, he told us in LS chat, that a lot of investors are pulling away from SE because FFXIV was bound to fail. He told us the game was bad. While I secretly agreed, our LS got mad. Partly due to the fact that he made a claim he was a millionaire and no one believed him and ended up dropkicking him from LS after some drama.

In the end, I guess he isn't lying. Reports shown previously that SE did lose investors.

I've seen many posts on the official forums where players are upset because their online friends are decreasing, and one of the main reasons they continue playing is because of the social interaction they have with their Linkshells.

One of my regrets about FFXIV is that it's opening disrupted FFXI's social network. While many of the players came back eventually, in the meantime quite a few smaller linkshells dissolved or recombined, with returning players trickling back to scattered new groups.

I started playing Guild Wars again... I played a long time ago, but just couldn't get very far because the game mechanics were so far below the mechanics of FFXI. Seems like they've changed some things in Guild Wars though (such as mob behavior), and now I'm getting really into it. I don't want to play it long-term, but I do want to beat the Eye of the North expansion... my wife played through it twice and said the story was great.

My wife and I also started playing EQ2. I thought about trying RIFT... but as fun as the game sounds on paper, every video clip I've seen looks very underwhelming... I don't dig the art style, and I don't think I could ever be immersed in a game with so many icons all over the screen.

I'm hoping to try Guild Wars II when it comes out, hopefully alongside of a revamped/fixed FFXIV.

Edit: Still dabbling in FFXI as well, but I really need to experience some kind of new storyline in whatever it is I'm playing.
