I am actually getting impressed. Hanging out in Grid. doing some quests. The sense of impending danger is really there. There have been some interesting tidbits dropped too - about

Quote:
Lefwyne: But if there's to be hostilities, there bloody well will be a need for stuff like seeds─and a lot more besides. And Twelve know Gridania ain't got the gil to wage war against the Empire.
Lefwyne: That's why I proposed we merchants start gathering together and forming...well, a company of sorts. There's none better placed than us to see weapons and supplies get where they need going. Just like the Grand Companies of old!

Quote:
Nellaure: There is little enough quality timber to be had as it stands. I even turned to the annals to learn of how the Grand Companies of old dealt with a similar situation over a thousand years ago.
Nellaure: It seems they strictly regulated all stages of production, from provisioning to fashioning. Such a system would certainly make it easier for us crafters to concentrate on our work.

I thought these two hints about companies were particularly interesting.

I have not done these quests in particular, but I've done a few of their ilk in Limsa and I completely agree. For all the fact that a lot of people seem to be dismissing the quests, for myself, they have been doing an excellent job of getting me incredibly interested in what is to come. Everything the NPCs have to say about Companies and the upcoming events in Erozea have got me incredibly intrigued. It's all a matter of preference, but every time I see someone claiming FFXIV has a terrible plot or that the lore is bland (I have seen comments to both of these effects) I just have to scratch my head in confusion.

I remember a couple more from when I did Grid's quests that are also worth reading, iirc. The problem with most of the quests is the legwork and far too easy kills.

You can't get a rank20 quest until you have a rank20 job, and then they have you kill 8 rank 20 creatures? Just how many millions rank20 creatures do you think you've had to kill to reach rank20 in the first place? A rank 19 player kills repeatedly rank29 creatures just to maximum XP/kill, and they're not even a real challenge...

THIS is my gripe about the quests.
