I know it's not even on PS3 yet, but from what I've read about the PS Vita, it will be almost as powerful as the PS3.
What do you tech heads think?
Will be be able to play XIV at low settings, or perhaps just be able to craft in special areas or do some dungeons?
I'd be more than happy to be able to level my crafts on the bus, or on night shift, then level my CON at home.
Sony are saying you'll be able to play online with your Vita against people playing on PS3's, so it must be fairly powerful.
Didn't SE have a hand held device in Japan for people to raise their chocobos on an earlier FF?

I don't think the market for MMO-to-go's is very large. Most people only play these kinda games while they're at home.

Wii U, on the other hand, makes so much sense that I would be surprised if it wasn't a launch title.

I think it would be a long shot only because last I heard, SE was having trouble cramming it onto PS3.

But oh god would I love just a downloadable crafting game to level my crafting in 14 on the go.

There was a portable device called a PocketStation, sold in Japan only, you could plug into the PS1 to play a chocobo mini-game in FF8 called Chocobo World. It was similar to the once popular "Tamagotchi" pet games of 10 or so years ago. Apparently if you bought the PC version of FF8, you could play it on there too.

Oh, man, I played the **** out of Chocobo world back in the day. It was more like a turn-based-battle + dungeon crawler than a Tamagotchi, though, since you never really took care of your chocobo. Unless, of course, fighting monsters in a cave counts as care.

I made a topic before that speculated the possibility of it being on Wii U. Given the information about Wii U now, that it will still be using an on board flash memory it will be a little inconvenient. IT will have support for a hard drive by USB however. I don't know if the data transfer speeds for USB would be good enough for it to run off an external hard drive or not. If it can though, I don't think it would be much different then the situation the PS2 was in then.

As for PS Vita like other said no keyboard would be a big bummer. And memory might be a problem here too.

Wii U is supposed to have SD card support which, by the time it's released, will probably have cards capable of holding this entire game for less than $15. The console is also aimed (almost entirely) at the Japanese market, which was one of FFXI's strongest ends. To top those off, Nintendo is opening up their online component for the developer to create (which was the main reason it didn't get released on the 360?).

The gods have lined this game up for being ported to the Wii U, it would be a sin if they didn't.

It wasn't released on the 360 because the 360 didn't exist at launch. When 360 launched, FFXI was available, and included everything up to ToAU. There was even a special bundle pack that included the console and FFXI. Just like PS2, actually. Except they didn't have to include a HDD. ;)

I could see it happen. Why can't it use a software keyboard like most phones that don't have an actual keyboard? It's got a touch screen and all.

I like the idea of FFXIV on the Vita. I doubt it would happen, but I would love to see it.

I understand that FFXI was released on the 360. I was talking about FFXIV.

It won't work and it could work.

It won't work because no HDD (Hard Drive). You'll be looking at around 10GB to install on PS3.

Now it could work if they fix Remote Play for the PS3 meaning you can remotely play your PS3 with the Vita. PSP had limit ability to do this because it was an after thought but PS Vita is coming with Remote Play and PS3 connectivity in mind.
