It'll get here when it gets here. They ran into issues releasing a game that wasn't ready. No reason to rush out patches that aren't done to add to irk an already frustrated player base.

Why would you be suprised? Last I checked August and (most of) September were still part of summer...

well iirc a lot more than just 1.18 was promised "before the end of summer", I'm not sure if that's realistic at this point..when 1.18 "SHOULD be out this month"(July) according to staff post on their board

i hope 1.18 brings awesome changes , but... its taking waay too long.

Why even waste your time moaning about it? People like you sit their moaning about changes and THEN moan that you need them right now. If you want quality you'll have to wait.. It's not exactly like your paying for it, go make a sandwich or something..

From what I recall, 1.18 was supposed to be "mid to late June" with the rest of the battle reform blueprints coming by "end of summer". Now it's, some form of auto attack (incomplete) will come out whenever it's ready, and the rest will be "by end of year". I know I was all excited after letter X and since then.... not as much.

I'm excited about the content being added more than exactly when it is added. I'd rather they take whatever time they need to get it right instead of either sending out a bug fest, or patch that more or less does noting except ++ the version number.

I agree, but my hope after letter X was that it was all in the works up to that point, and posting all that info and giving an estimate meant that they were pretty sure they could live up to the estimate. With all the studder stepping about dates since then it feels like they're just tossing stuff out there to see what sticks. Sure it's still moving in the right direction, I just am less excited and back to 'keeping an eye on development for the long run'.

I agree with the OP, September and October are the biggest Game releasing months of the year. if they don't get there *** in gear there going to loose any momentum they may have gained by this series of patches. the clock is ticking faster and faster, if they cant keep the pace its Game Over for FFXIV.

There is no momentum. Recent patches create only a slight spike in interest.

It's long road ahead. Impatience will only lead to repeating the same mistakes that put FFXIV in this hole.

SE, take your time and good luck.

So the original time was Mid to late june.... then in one of his latest letters they explained that it would be delayed by 2 weeks more than they expected. That would put it right around mid july at the latest. Most likely next week we will see the patch

Mr. Smash has it right. In fact, I'll wager that 1.18 will come across not as thrilling but rather underwhelming and anti-climactic. It's about as exciting as laying a foundation. Most people see a hole in the ground and shrug, but those with vision see the potential about to unfold.

(Now if the visionaries aren't happy, we could have a problem...)

I don't really think they care how long it takes this time around. I also think they'd love to keep their current players, but would be willing to sacrifice all of us hoping that a Playstation release whenever the game is actually revamped will draw a few hundred thousand subscribers. They know that getting everything right no matter how long it takes will make them more money than just rushing out more unfinished work. They have a negative reputation for pushing out unfinished work, and it is a good thing, although frustrating to those of us sticking it out, that they are making sure to not repeat those mistakes.

I am getting kinda bored though. And lonely.

While the devs do need to "do it right" and make sure everything is balanced before it's released, it cannot be denied that time is a factor in all of this...

The playerbase is already abysmal, and with each passing day, more-and-more people lose interest. I mean if it's gonna take 2-3 years for this to become a respectable game, do they really expect potential players and hopeful current players to wait for updates that might make the game enjoyable? Especially when thery're coming out at a snail's pace...?

I'm not saying that they should rush, that's what put them in this position in the first place, but there needs to be a middle-ground. I'm aware that rebuilding the entire battle system is a complicated process, but that doesn't change the fact that 1.18 is likely gonna come off as underwhelming after taking so long, especially if the August/September release rumors are accurate.

One of the problems: They don't only have to finish their 2010 game, but also make it competitive in the late 2011 market. The world is moving on, and unluckily SE is spinning slower than the world.

Hyperbole I hope?

At this point they should take whatever time is necessary, but if what they have in the near future (battle changes, "raids," jobs, companies, etc) isn't well received they need to do us all a favor and call it off.

I wouldn't really call it hyperbole - a little over ambitious at the moment perhaps, but not hyperbole. Any MMO developed by a company the size of SE should be shooting for at least 200-500 thousand concurrent subscribers at some point in their lifespan. This is an interesting, although somewhat old, study that shows the general ballpark SE was(is) probably aiming for ultimately. Although this may be more realistic at this point.

I'm sure that was their goal.. Fast forward to reality today, and do we even have 20k people logging on per week?

My understanding is that, based on how XI has gone and how many PS3s are out there, people were expecting the PC playerbase to outnumber the PS3 for XIV (way back when we assumed the game would be decent). The game stands to see plenty of improvement, but we're still looking at a PC playerbase that has dwindled to almost nothing, and the game has never had a monthly fee.

Looking at this, I just thought that saying the Playstation release alone could possibly "draw a few hundred thousand subscribers" was absurdity.
