Quote:
Imperial Interlopers in Ishgard Word has arrived from our northern field correspondent directing us to a disconcerting disturbance unfolding in Ishgardian Coerthas. House Fortemps, one of the financially foremost families of the Holy See of Ishgard, has apparently assembled a substantial military contingent at the hamlet of Owl’s Nest. If this information has reached us in full fidelity—and there is no indication otherwise—the contingent, formed of knights and sellswords, has been mobilized for a most mystifying motive: the liberation of the Dzemael Darkhold.

Before I proceed, pray permit me to ponder a pair of points. First, it is common knowledge that the Dzemael Darkhold was intended to be Ishgard’s bastion in their continuing conflict against dragonkind, a flawless fortification from where they would wage war against their ancient adversaries. Second, it had earlier been revealed that the Ishgardians had met with a quandary in the quarrying effort, which should have triggered a tangible tightening of defenses. What formidable force, then, could have mastered the martially minded Ishgardians in a position as well-defended as the Darkhold?

In endeavoring to establish an explanation, our correspondent tracked down a man-at-arms who was witness to the fall of the Dzemael Darkhold. According to the scar-streaked sellsword, work had been proceeding purposefully to prime the cavernous cavities and craggy corridors of the Darkhold for use as a fortification. All this came to a screeching halt, however, when what appeared to be an expertly etched effigy of a fiend was turned up in the midst of mining. The Ishgardians set about excavating it, only to have the seemingly soulless statue suddenly spring to life the instant they tried to move it. Lifeless no more, the fiend flew into a fit of frenzy, murdering a motley of miners and injuring innumerable others.

Knights and hired hands alike hurled themselves into the fray in a venture to vanquish the virulent fiend. Unbeknownst to them, however, at the precise moment they rallied to arms against the malevolent menace, Imperial troopers had stormed the Darkhold’s entrance. The clash—if it could be called such—was sealed in a score of seconds. The Ishgardians swiftly succumbed with scarcely a struggle, and it was all our interviewee could do to flee with his life.

After several years spent in silent slumber, has the Empire really roused to resume its march on Eorzea? If so, what implications could this hold on the province of profit? Commenting on the conceivable consequences, Mythril Eye economist Tzetzelun speculates that the anticipation of armed conflict will send the price of wheat, grains, and other sundry supplies soaring. The armaments market, on the other hand, can expect to undergo furious fluctuations for the foreseeable future.

An event of far-reaching impact has been set in motion, but the hour is yet young. The Mythril Eye shall sustain its surveillance of the situation in Coerthas, that our readers might be properly prepared to confront the coming chaos in the commercial climate.

**** near positive that was Seismic Shock(Level 8 Pugilist move, not so useful but looks awesome) and not any sort of new jumping move.

Video was kind of cool to me for the fact that I've never seen actual partying...

Max group still 8. 7 show at the side, then you have to add in your character for the 8th. I think it looked good, funny how they wiped ... trying to show difficulty?

The ogre looked larger than the roaming ones, and as of now there is no need to fight them. Glad we will have a reason to now. Too bad I will be out of town when 1.18 hits ... Unless they delay it a week :)

2. Yes it is promising.
3. Yes you get a warning before the ahriman decides to rock your world with an 8k damage attack.

So these dungeons will feature some assorted monsters and, at the end, what appears to be a large boss with horns and a tail who stomps loudly and probably uses fire.

So Japanese gaming really hasn't come very far, has it?

i kid, i kid, but the dungeon really doesn't seem to be pushing the creativity envelope.

The video certainly shows a lot of promise, unfortunately, we just won't know until patch day. Group dynamics seem to be working out well in the video, compared to the absolute nightmare they were a few months ago. My only gripe- SE couldn't have come up with a better setting than a cave?

Didn't Yoshi recently state that not all of these will be caves or even dungeons, thus the naming scheme of raid instead of dungeon? I could be wrong, I often am this time of night.

I actually fundamentally disagree with this assessment. Any conclusion we draw from this video is merely supposition, but it appears to me that the goals of the shown dungeon are actually rather complex. From the looks of it, there are several sub-bosses; this may be a misinterpretation, since I have not fought an Eye before, but it appears that the Eye the party is fighting is significantly more powerful than anything else they were fighting. Furthermore, there appear to be several assault-like mini-games throughout the dungeon - as evidenced by the machines that seem to be operating the doors.

For myself, I may merely be over-hopeful, but I am very... excited may be the wrong word... interested in what has been displayed in the video.

yes.

And as for complaining about the cave... why it this your issue. I personally don't care where the content is located as long as it exists - and these are just the first steps. Let's try them out before we complain, shall we?

Aye, some of my most fond memories of XI are of Chains of Promathia, and a large chunk of it took place in a void.

Yoshi even stated in a previous letter that he intentionally stopped using the word "dungeon" because future raids won't necessarily take place in a dungeon. Or something like that.

There will be more added in future updates. But these dungeons have been unused in the .DATS for quite a while, it's a logical first step to go off existing resources.

Sheesh, a mob that does 8k+ dmg to a pty of 50's. That's gonna be fun! Seriously I have no complaints. And caves, I miss Kuftal and Guivre buttraping everyone leveling in there when crabs were the best option during those sad levels. I miss trains too. The giant trains in crawlers nest come to mind when I was a BST leveling in there. Sigh.

In my opinion today's update and corresponding video allude to several things.

1. Forthcoming cutscenes which will help explain further the attack of the Garleans and warning prophecies.
2. The following statement has me pondering,
After several years spent in silent slumber, has the Empire really roused to resume its march on Eorzea? If so, what implications could this hold on the province of profit? Commenting on the conceivable consequences, Mythril Eye economist Tzetzelun speculates that the anticipation of armed conflict will send the price of wheat, grains, and other sundry supplies soaring. The armaments market, on the other hand, can expect to undergo furious fluctuations for the foreseeable future.
Will food effects will start to become sought after causing demand for these prices to increase? I know the need for repairs will go up.
3. The comment about armaments has me hoping for some new gear from these instances and also to some degree the materia crafting system.

All speculation but exciting nonetheless.

I like the new HP bar for enemies, and if that's an icon for auto-attack at 1:03 inside the target cursor, that looks fine to me. The music helps the arguably bland setting and reused mobs..

Hard to say much else just watching that, but the ahriman (in addition to hitting people for 8k+) was displayed as a big purple dot, so it looks significant. Add in the little container/statue opening the door, being able to port around.. Could turn out pretty decent.

also to kinda get it off my chest, there seems to be a large amount of people who are very MMO ignorant in general as well as very ignorant when it comes to actual just basic game development that only takes 5 minutes to read up on.
those boards are just filled with shouts of ignorance and demands with no knowledge or rational involved it seems.
im personally worried as to how the dungeon system might operate because i personally did not agree with some of FFXIs restrictions and dispised dynamis with a passion, but it doesnt really look like it will all together go that rout.
this is SE so there are going to be some old fashioned things about it that i dont like but im sure ill like other stuff.
i just want the developers to look at what seems to all around work, use some of that as their base and use their own ingenuity and creativity to create their game.

Hey gang,

What our German counterpart, Sasunaich, said is correct. The development team discussed it and opted not to include a queue system for the instanced raids at this time. The system will allow groups to enter on a first come, first serve-type system. However, nothing was mentioned about how many parties can take part in the instance at the same time.

I've sent a request for further clarification on how many parties can inhabit the dungeon at the same time and will report back when I have further details to share. Sorry for the delay!
