Hey all. I was just curious to see if anyone else was considering starting over with patch 1.18. To just pretend the game just came out and start from scratch as if totally new to the game. While I know most of you rank 50s out there might answer with a resounding f... no!!!, I'd still like to know how many would think it to be kinda cool.

I figure since they are going to do away with Physical lvls it wont matter much either way. Unless they are gonna convert somehow physical lvl into skill points to be used to boost class rank of our choosing. Some how I doubt it though lol. Anyway since we have less than 5 days before the "new beginning" just figured I'd throw it out there.

See ya online.

I've made & deleted quite a few different characters, including my original one. Some of those were "this sucks" rage-quits, others were just me getting bored and not liking the character. I prefer a newer character of mine that only specializes in a few things.

Anyway, I bring that up because in my experience there are some things you may not mind doing all over again, but it can build up after a while. You fly through the early levels and think "This isn't so bad". Then you get into the real grind, the story/class quests, side quests, etc. When it starts to eat up a lot of time to do the less interesting stuff you've done before it can be a big turnoff. You may think "Hmm, I already had this crap done. Why am I doing it again?"

Somethin' to consider if you're gonna do that.

I have already started over twice thinking my experience would be enhanced with the new patches. I was wrong unfortunately. Every time I start over I think, "this time will be different, I know I will love it this time..." So far that just hasn't been true. I am really not going to play again until I am 100% sure I will enjoy the world I step into.

Probably depends on what made you quit in the first place. There are going to be a lot of things still the same. Can you over look those because of the changes in 1.18?

The thought of starting over has crossed my mind more than once. If I could keep my crafting levels, I'd do it in an instant. I'm still torn and undecided. Since we are not paying atm, I may make another character and level that.

I have 3 30s and wouldn't think of restarting. Even 20-30 is pretty grindy when you just solo leves.

I might make an alt character just to experience the early levels again while it's still free, but the newness doesn't outdo the costs. (Especially leveling GLD to 25 again...)

I may just make another character so I can play through the first part of different scenarios...and see what the difference is from start until where I am now. I am curious about it.

I'd like to think that patch 1.18 would be enough to warrant "pretending the game was like this from the beginning," but the fact of the matter is that 1.18 is just the first big step in a long road. We're not even getting jobs in this patch; maps will still be terribly copy-pasted; there's still no option for travel; DoL and DoH remain "alpha" at best, and all essentially the same; stats need to be changed; and so on, so on.

I'm not saying that all of the game's problems should have been fixed in 1.18. I am saying, however, that remaking a character just for this patch would be too optimistic with regard to its effects.

Lol. I only stopped playing because they were going to redo battle system. I figured no point in getting too stuck in my ways. However I guess I could just make another char for fun since still free. Thanks for the insight and the resounding f... No :)

I was considering this too but like somebody in here has already said, it seems like such a great idea for the first 10 levels before you realize that you have to redo everything. I will say this though, better to restart at 1.18 than when the mounts and new classes come out because you'll be the only one without a chocobo or new job otherwise..

If I ever start over, it's when they'll have male miqo'tes, not just because of auto-attack and a couple of quality of life changes.

Although I do play an alt from time to time when the mood strikes me -- but I don't consider that starting over as much as killing time.

I deleted my rank28 conj, 21 thaum a month after launch and I cannot wait to start new. I want to experience all the game has without experiencing it all before. I think having multiple 50s now would ruin the game which is why I choose to just wait it out. You lose out on the friendships that you may have formed if u were still leveling.

Despite the negatives in it(especially if you were any kind of far with other characters), I am seeing some positives in this idea.

One in particular I like is with the removal of fatigue you could pick your main class and just do that if that's all you want to do. Harder with crafting(need mats & shards) & gathering(gathering fatigue), but the idea of just making a character as 1 class and nothing else is kinda appealing to me.

The various quests offering an SP bonus at completion would also be nice to take advantage of all the way up.
