Brand New Player Lots Of Questions...Follow

Hello I recently purchased FF14 for 15 dollars ( collectors edition ) which i though was a steal compared to the 75 dollars price tag when it was released. I tried out the release of the game with a buddy pass from a friend and didn't like the game but to be honest i was coming in the game with a "hating" mentality because i was looking for another FF11 which i played since 2004 and didn't get past level 10 so my judgement is not fair.

Anyways After having a lot of free time/finding this awesome deal I am actually excited to start up again and give it another "real" try.

I have several questions:( i apologize if its been asked a lot before)

1) I used a buddy pass registration code to play for free when it was released a while ago but cancelled and haven't played again. I notice my account is still linked with my SquareEnix account, is there any way to remove the registration code used from the buddy pass and replace it with my brand new code from my collectors edition for both security purpose/ and personally want to use my own code?

2) Back when i started i remember you couldn't rest for mp did this change in any way?

3) Did they ever remove the fatigue system?

4) I am burned out of damage dealing jobs from FF11 and a lot of the mmorpg's i played and have always said if i ever started up ff11 again i would of gone the path of the mage instead specially since i found it extremely fun/ loved all the special things they got like warp/sneak/invis/buffing and helping random people/etc. So I will start a galka mage, is it true there is no difference in races stats like FF11 where galkas had it rough until Race specific equipment? ( i was former galka mage)

5) which town resembles bastok the most? this was my favorite town, also which are the best towns for mages? also which craft benefit mages in this game the most? Like weapon and armor?

6) what the heck is a "thama turkey" lol this is the way i pronounce and looks like to me? is this like a red mage? and how does it compare to the conjurer?

7) what is the purpose of the questions in the beginning like asking about element and gods(deity) you are close to or whatever when you create a character?

8) what sub jobs are useful for mages since there is only 2 mage jobs in the game?

9) Finally how is the figaro server is it one of the most active ones? i picked it before with my friends because of our love for final fantasy 3 for snes what server do you guys recommend or should i stick here with my friends?

Any information is appreciated.

1) Not sure.

2) Yes, MP will now regen like HP when in passive mode.

3) Not yet. Surplus exp (yellow numbers and reduced sp gains) will be removed in the coming patch)

4) There are maybe 1-2 stat point differences in the defualt makeup of each race, but no one class is prefered for a certain job than another.

5) Not sure about Bastok (that is ffxi i presume). You will find that Uldah is the dominant town in most servers these days. If yo are going Conjurer you may wish to start in Gridania as that is the base of the Conjurers Guild (also the Carpenters guild is there which is where a lot of your weapons come from).for Thaumaturge you may want to stat in Uldah as it is the hometown of the guils (also the Goldsmith guild is there and most of the 1h scepters are made by them). Armor is mostly cloth and leather for both classes. Weaver is in Uldah and Leatherworker is in Gridania.

6) Thaumaturge/THM (i pronounce it thaw - ma - turge) is a non-elemental mage. Where conjurer uses the 6 elemental spells for damage, a thaumaturge uses astral and umbral damage. Both have heals and debuff/DOTs but conurer has more self buffs. They also have different spell patterns, conjurer is radial on the target whereas thaumaturge is conal (much easier to direct).

7) At this time there is no benefit to your starting birth date/month/guardian. There are supposed to be plans to add revelvance to these features and when they do we will get the option to change, i think. Just pick whatever sounds nice to you.

8) Most people playing a mage will invariably rank up both mage classes to cross class skills, but I am not sure what mellee classes best support the mages. There are some guides on CON and THM in their class forums which should help you there better.

http://ffxiv.zam.com/wiki/Thaumaturge_101_%28FFXIV%29 is a really good Thaumaturge guide.

9) I am not sure about other server populations.

Hope that helps

Thank you very much for the reply i appreciate it.

Is it true they are going to remove the physical levels and the ability to put stats points into whatever you like? Where can i read up on these patch notes? all i saw was something about raise.

1) is the death penalty in this game still the same as in release where you get absolutely nothing bad from dying and death was meaningless?

Any additional information is appreciated, on the diety i might pick that thunder one that carry staff sounds like something mage'ish, but what elements effect what craft how do i find this out?

thank you.

Hello thanks again guys for the help i appreciate it.

I have a few more questions if you guys don't mind answering.

1) Gridania vs Ul'dah
i am having a hard time deciding what town to start and main in. I will be a conjurer main probably because it reminds me of black mage or white mages in ff11 instead of the thematurkey or however you say it class. I will be doing a lot of heavy crafting because i enjoy business/gambling/making my own stuff/ and not depending on people for my stuff ( i hope you get your name on armor you make also for cool factor lol)

so what do you guys recommend?
is there any website i can check the outside areas of these towns ? from what i can see gridania looks like a pseudo windurst from FF11 and Ul'dah ( why did they make these names so complicating ) looks like bastok am i wrong on this?
how is the mission in each side?
any pro or con of each place or info is appreciated.

2) when i make a character and pick a race they have 2 choice does the way your character customizes depend on this choice? like the sea wolf on description sound like the physical ones and the other ones for galkas sound like mages ( which by my surprise say they are mages from ul'dah or some fire mountain. I hate the red guys am i force to make them red or do they both have the same character customization ?

3) If i delete my SE account and start up new one it says you can't use name or e-mail any way to by-pass this? i had bonus given to me by someone i don't trust personally anymore and bought my own copy of collector edition recently and wish to add my own registration codes/etc?

4) kind of sucks there is only 2 mages and like 4-5 physical class any word in new job class in future? hopefully summoner or something like blue mages.

thank you ^^

Welcome back to the game.

1) In my honest opinion starting in Gridania will make things slightly more difficult for you starting off as a new player, unless you know someone able to give you an initial port to Ul'dah. The main reason for this currently is that the game doesn't really require us to move around for much besides a few class guilds in Limsa Lominsa and Gridania. With a small game population you'll find the majority of players have gathered in Ul'dah, which has essentially become the hub of activity be that grouping, crafting or selling. However things are planned to change in the upcoming patches, with the class guilds having more impact in which areas/cities you need to travel to. I'd say choose which you prefer but be prepared for a ghost town in Gridania. As for servers, currently the busiest seem to be Selbina and Besaid. Look on the server list at how many chocobos each server has and pick one that has atleast 2/3.

2) The character races e.g. Plainsfolk or Dunesfolk Lalafell only affect the look of your character, with each race offering different skin tones, hairstyles and several other options. You can choose your favourite race and build whatever character you desire, it's not going to affect your in-game classes at all. Go through both race types to find the character you want to be.

3) If your looking to ditch the SE account then can you not just register your CE to a new email address..? Surely this will prevent the person accessing your account too and make it much safer..

4) The devs are currently working on an advancement in the class system due out in a month or two. It will apparently offer all the current classes an extension, allowing them to specialize, loosing the ability to be flexible but becoming much more useful in parties. For example Gladiator will probably be getting a Paladin extension and Conjurer into White Mage. There has been mention of Summoning classes but they definitely aren't coming anytime soon. I will say this, nobody currently knows how the mage classes are going to be handled. I personally just leveled Conjurer to rank 40 only to find out that we are getting two more Raise spells than Thaumaturge. Therefore it is possible though unknown that Conjurer will become White Mage. I'd suggest leveling both side by side.

Finally: The games getting a battle system revamp tomorrow, I'd just wait until then to play now to be honest.

once again thank you for the information i appreciate it a lot.

when you said "Look on the server list at how many chocobos each server has and pick one that has atleast 2/3"
is this int his site or the official website i never seen any "chocobo feature to determine populations" lol most of my friends who roamed the game before i think were on figaro how is that server doing anyways?

I am glad they are making class specialize a bit more, it felt weird that any class can have any ability so making main class felt out of place back when i tried it out.

By the way is there any youtube videos or place i can see missions in town or outside areas? or inside towns?

You're correct, the Onion Helm is only gotten from the CE and you cannot get the goggles.

The other Onion Knight gear pieces drop in Faction leves.

where can i check server populations anyways?

someone mentioned to check if its 2/3 chocobo what the heck is he talking about or what website?

by the way any website where i can check enviroments outside of towns or missions? I am stil debating on grinadia or the ul'dah place. I was considering ul'dah because the description of the galkas from the mountain say they are mages from ul'dah so i though the story would hit them up.

During the process of creating your character, it'll ask which server you wish to create it on. The choices will have a number of chocobos showing how many people are CURRENTLY logged on. The more chocobos, the more people. Just b/c there are lots of chocobos on now, that may reflect people from a different time zone. You can always create a character and just test out a server/city and see which one you like the most. There's nothing that will stop you from deleting and creating a new character. Leveling up initially is very fast and easy, so you wont lose much time by creating a new character.

The "tribe" descriptions are just descriptions. I know the Roegadyn "red galka" are said to be from a fiery mountain, but truth be told, there is no fiery mountain accessible in the game at this time. The story is unique to each city up to rank 20. Once you begin the rank 20 storyline quest, every city begins to have the same quest. The story doesn't have change at all based on the race/tribe you are. It is the same for each.

LOL thamaturkey thats good! Sorry I have to. To pronounce Thaumaturge, think "thaw-muh-ter-juh."

Thank you very much once again i appreciate all the information.

One of my final questions and sorry for info spam, but when I am creating the characters what choices differ depending on the "race" you pick? what I mean is lets say you pick between Roegadyn (Hellsguard) or Roegadyn (Sea Wolf); what kind of difference will i get depending on this choice? is it just the skin tone only? or do you get different hair type or face type? So far what i can only notice is the skin tone changes a bit and the characteristic, is there anything else?

By the way what the heck happened to galkas they look weird to me, also it looks like every race but the galkas have cool character customization i feel they went lazy on them lol. Where is the tail ? lol

There was a Specific Reason that the Galka's tail was removed; way back in the day it was discussed in one of the Game Interviews I think. There really is no difference between the cultures of each race. It will say that each come from different areas, but it seems that is more for your own benefit, as the game doesn't have any info to complement it at the moment.
You can even change the color of the skin, and some facial expressions, hair type, etc. This was also underplayed, and Yoshi-P has assured us that there will be more customization coming, and I think that they will show up around the time the Female Roe/ Male Mithra show up.

Just play around with the customization, you will find something that you like.

so what are the difference in between the two choice per race in the customization menu? was i correct in saying only skin tone and "feature" like different scars etc?

what about body type? does this have to do with anything or are they just presets and every type is the same?

by the way lol to them removing tail ill see if i can look it up on net i never saw that, i miss my galka tail.

Yes, the only difference is the aesthetics. I am pretty sure though, that you can still customize with the same scars and color schemes.
Body Type should be the height of the Character.
Look around December to February's interview with the Devs. Sometime around when the time people were first talking about how little hair styles there were.

One final question before i close this thread.

- When they remove physical levels how do you guys think the stat points will be allocated? have they mentioned this before? When you pick a race they get different stats from what i see one more melee oriented and other more magic oriented ( the beginning stats ) do you guys think they will increase depending on race/tribe choice?

I was going to make a galka or whatever the heck they call them now and i see the story for the ones from the mountain say they use magic or something ( the hellguards ) but I hate their skin tone only options are some weird pink colors or red, so i made sea wold for the white retro regular galka skin from FFXI. I hope i am wrong.

-Also do the 2 different tribes get different hp/mp or stat points per level? i saw someone post a table showing some difference when he took 2 tribes to level 10.

The way it works is you'll get to allocate points for each job. So you'll have a Lancer points pool, a Conjurer points pool, etc.

Yeah lorewise, the Hellsguard are the magic users from the volcanic regions and the Sea Wolves are like viking raiders. But, really the lore is mostly for flavor. If you compare the beginning stats, a Hellsguard has slightly more 'magic' oriented stats than a Sea Wolf, but it's not like in XI where a Tarutaru would be played to get the highest amount of MP. You have a huge level of control over all your stats, plus there's stat enhancing gear as well, so racial starting traits are very, very negligible. Just play what you like.

Hello once again instead of making another thread with questions about the game i decided to continue here with another question about the game that i have forgotten/its confusing me again.

-When you get levels you get attribute points to allocate. does your stat change or can you change your stats around depending on what class you change to? Or are the attributes you set up for yourself permanent.

What i mean is if i am a mage I would think that raising int/mnd/piety/vit are the only stats worthwhile but does this mean if i change to a melee class and neglect str/dex i will be screwed?

how does the point allocation system work again or has anything changed with it?

That's pretty much it. But not permanently screwed. You can reassign points at any time. Well there's a cooldown timer based on your current level(It's not much time at all at lv.10, but it takes hours at 30), but that's the only limitation.

It's not really practical to go back and forth and reassigning points like this though. The time it takes to select each stat, then drop it, wait, select others just doesn't seem worth the effort.

On my last character, really only wanting Con/Thau to 20 for their abilities, I just leveled them both at once as they shared identical gear(besides weapon of course) and stats. This might not be all that great of an idea now though, with less SP available all around.

You won't exactly be screwed either way. You can still function as a no Str Marauder. You won't be anywhere near as good as one that did focus on melee stats, but it can still work. I still do leves on my Conjurer(For Marks) with a whole 17 Int and 30 something Mnd. Damage isn't great, MP pool is kind of crappy, but it works.
