Settlements take on various shapes and forms, and are intended to serve as landmarks and bases of operations for adventurers. Future patches will usher in more features to enhance their practicality, with each location set to become the backdrop for an assortment of new quests.

Honestly, I doubt they'll implement quest hubs with no quests whatsoever.

They look nice and with the adition of quest will of course add to the content we as players get to do but I feel that this could have easily be done with the current settlements that already exist ingame.

Lets hope that along with the lore provided they actually add something worthwhile to the game.

At least the big empty space is getting populated by some more landmarks. Just wish the new quests will be more interesting and challenging than the ones we've had so far, and one can only hope they finally make some sorts of cutscenes to make it more appealing (think along the lines of regular class quests).

They look beautiful! Nicely laid into the landscape too! I like The Coffer & Coffin the best!

I'm more interested in the announcement of beastman settlements, which should make for some fun party play. And is that a chocobo I see? Ain't nothing wrong with that!

I'm looking forward to that danger feeling you'd get from running through Davoi or any of the other beast strongholds when running missions in FFXI.

I just hope they give us sneak and invis soon.

This should be cool, I just wish we had the ability to keep a homepoint at one of these settlements. As it stands your homepoint always changes when you do a leve quest.

Checked in with Matsui about the possibility of sneak and invisible in FFXIV. In regards to a sneak/invisible (item/ability/spell, etc.) that can be used by all classes, the dev. team is not planning on going in a direction where sneak/invisible are required, or if you don’t have sneak/invisible you can't proceed, so there are no plans for them currently.

Honestly, they look nicely designed and all, but are we really at the place where we have to have an announcement for the introduction of a handful of shacks?

So... they're not going to bother with sneak/invis because you might have to use them to get past monsters? Great. And boring. >_>

Don't forget that as Yoshi said, there are so many things being released this patch they they are (were) releasing a couple things every few days, the patch itself is much more than this as I posted on another thread...

Settlements...? I wouldn't want to use the bathroom in any of those wooden shanty town looking fire death traps. Instead of adding houses that take 3 days to build and then call them a "settlements" we need basic merchants at high level camps to buy loot so people can hang around them. I hate running by great XP camps that are still empty because it's just a leve starting point.

ENOUGH whining and picking, seriously. No matter what SE does you guys b8tch and complain. New developments are coming out every day for 1.18 and all you can do is pick it apart? The programmers are working day and night to bring content to the game. They have definitely won me back with the fact that they seem motivated about making this a good product. Chill, peel yourselves off your gaming chairs and go see what it looks like outside for a change...maybe the "sunshine" will do you some good.

Right, because I obviously must be a morbidly obese pale introvert because I have fairly critical eye.

I guess since we're painting with such a large brush, you're a game-whipped white knight, right?

I would prefer it if they added merchants, shops and quests to the villages first - but these look cool. Not as cool as the owl's nest though.

i personally dont think theres anything "cool" or "beautiful" about any of these setups. i do, however, find them to be somewhat realistic to the backdrop and necessary to liven up the zone a bit. im glad were getting them.

heres to more(quantity)/bigger/better looking settlements in future updates.

If they come out of a flying book, I'm going to be a little more concerned this is just turning into "FFXI, HD edition." But I guess there are worse games they could be copying. XD

Good - there is plenty of room and this will add a heck of a lot of "ooohhh what's that??? lemme 'splore" to the experience. I don't even want to log in until maybe the next two patches, because it sounds like by then it might be worth paying for.

I hope they are more than just the generic "quest hubs" that other games have.

Also, what are they thinking with the sneak and invisible? Sneaking around enemy strongholds to get to good XP camps or to coffer mobs was pretty fun - that sense of danger and adventure that it could all go very wrong at any time.

Gosh, don't take the Final out of Final Fantasy.
