Is anyone else hoping that this will begin to turn it into, at the least of what I was hoping FFXIV would be, a faster paced version of FFXI, better story lines, and creative while also innovative additions to the Final Fantasy line of games?

I think it will still have a long way to go, but I'm happy they are moving in the right direction.

Yes, I believe we are on the right track now. Establishing a good foundation to build upon. Let the fun begin!

+1
This is one of many updates that will bring FFXIV in the right direction. This sets the foundation, but there is still a long way to go.

Yeah, I can see the battleship slowly turning w/ this patch. Already having fun hunting down NMs for rare drops just like the old FFXI days. Coming together, will just take time (as FFXI did for those that weren't around in FFXI's humble beginnings). So much to look forward to and character level caps are only at 50...how many years and content updates did it take to get the level cap in the 90's?

SE: Can we get rid of the ranged attack on some of the mobs? Want to knock the rust off my gravity/DOT/kite strategy :)

Yeah, Yoshi seems to identify more with the player, now we're starting to finally see the big changes at least he's been hoping for. 6 months or so for the new development team to work on all of this stuff (from scratch) is quite impressive if you see the same amount of time that beta started last year to the time of the official launch. (Also about a 6 month span.)

I think Tanaka worked more for the sake of getting the game out as soon as possible and then improve it while we're paying, and Yoshi's team is more for waiting and releasing a quality patch.

I think we're finally going in the right direction, but we'll see after 1.18 hits before we know for sure. I can see why people would be doubtful given that the patches Yoshi has done so far haven't changed all too much in the game yet.

waiting to make sure content is as good as possible is exactly what blizzard does and they have yet to release a game of less than excellent quality. (i'm not being biased, i don't like WoW but it is still an excellent game)

people just need to learn to be patient. when the game goes pay to play is the day i'm reserving judgement for this game.

Now after all the months of waiting i am happy we had the start we had with the game. Without all the troubles and the bad release we would have the same developers and the same direction the game had at beginning. The early release and the destroying reviews and player feedback made SE go back onto a glorious way.

Sadly we had to endure alot bullcrap the first months but i think now with 1.18 and the coming patches the game will get really great. Also in my oppinion alot players will come and play the game, gamers don't usually leave a game they don't like and then never look at it again.. many gamers keep being informed about changes and are searching for alternative games all time. So yes, also a bad starting ffxiv will have many new chances to regain old players and acquire new ones.

Months ago i got angry when i did read the sentence "we want to regain trust"... now... with Mr. Yoshi-P they stopped with political phrases and talking and just doing what the old boss "wanted" to do.

thumbs up, enjoy the game :)
