Uh, maybe I'm crazy, but I thought physical levels/points were being abolished in 1.18... but they're still here?

They are supposed to be at some point, but apparently they never really said when. I was among those who assumed 1.18.

Popular opinion is 1.19.

Sigh.

They already stated it's going to be implemented in 1.19.

Why is it exactly that people don't like physical levels? I never got that... I like having the high stats capped when I roll a new toon and like allocating my points.

Is it because of ppl who are disciples or war and have a caster toon or vice versa?

It just that it contradicted the original concept of the game. Or how it was described anyway.

We were supposed to be able to switch classes on the fly. Go out, kill a few mobs till you happen across a mining/fishing/botany node and have at it, craft the materials that you netted then go back to killing.

That's why they put in fatigue -- to "encourage" us not to spend too much time on anyone class.

The trouble is, the Physical Levels and the cumbersome method of allocating stats and reassigning them for a new class made switching to a new class take forever. In addition to the fact that you could only redo so many points at any one time.

1.) It is completely antithetical to the armoury system. It makes changing classes a chore, especially when changing from Tank > Damage; Damage > Magic; Anything > Crafting; etc.

2.) It isn't really used for anything; advancing in quests or missions is always determined by rank, not level.

3.) There is no way not to raise physical level, so anybody with a single class nearing rank 50 has their physical level capped necessarily. Why implement a part of character growth that's going to just be wholly stagnant and capped at 50 for more than 90% of one's playtime?

In sum, it was just a badly designed and implemented system. There was no reason for physical levels considering that their sole benefit was to allow one to have capped stats (which barely did a thing at all anyway) when changing to significantly lower-ranked classes. The costs far outweighed this, as hopefully illustrated above.

Sorry, I'm a little late to the party here. But if they're getting rid of physical levels then how will they determine your attributes? Is everybody just going to have the same attributes and resists?

No, it's going to be the same as right now, except based on your rank, and therefore a different amount of points (and different attribution) for every class.

It's not going to be automatic like XI or WoW, at least not according to what they said on the official forums.

I see. So it will (hopefully) remember what numbers you've chosen for that specific class every time you change? I guess it would almost kind of have to or else what's the point.

i wish they did it the other way around and got rid of the "ranks" name. i like "levels" better, it's more traditional but thats just me.

Buy a lottery ticket, because you just won.

They already confirmed they will be changing "ranks" to "levels" when they actually abolish physical levels.

Physical levels are more realistic I guess--spend a lot of time fighting with a sword, you get stronger, and you don't suddenly get weaker when wielding another weapon.

So what will happen now--you switch from a sword to a lance and your HP drops by 90%?

Why not just use alts? Alts are more fun.

When progression was much slower, I think it made more sense, because you weren't spending 90% of your game with capped stats, and while they did encourage swapping classes, it would have taken so long to max out a class that they probably didn't expect people to be swapping them that often. Now that there's many players with more than 5 classes at rank 50, yeah, the whole thing seems kinda silly. I think they should have just gone with 1 class, 1 character, like every other game, and make DoL and DoH professions.
