Sephiroth, because by the end of the first syllable I'm already tired of hearing his name.

I know I've mentioned how much I hate when people do this, but I'm doing it anyways.

So this is how they found the winning word. Good to know, are there any words out there over 18 letters?

Does that really count, as it's actually multiple words?
兵具鎖の太刀
Hyo Gugusari-no-tachi

That's like saying the longest word is BLU's QuadraticContinuum.

Hacchonenbutsu-Dangozashi? Or does that count as two (maybe I'll hyphenate it heh heh heh)?

Edit: Docent42's not going to like this! But she makes a valid point; single words only makes more sense for this thread.

The Hyugugusarinotachi does count in this particular case because the In-game version of the weapon does not include hyphons. I would contest that fact however as I believe all items in FFXI are limited to 18 possibly 19 characters meaning Hyphons and spacing aren't availible.

Yeah, that counts as 2 words. Hyphens wont work.

Right, and this is why they approved it.

Are you at Comic Con too Zinato? If you want, use twitter and tweet "#moogle ZAMzinato hey I have letter XXX." If anyone beats our word, want to team up with us with your letter. (The 'ZAMzinato' is so I know it's you. I'm chillinpuma if you see it.) Us FFXIV players should stick together! :D

On a side note, FFXIII-2 is definitely an improvement and from what the representatives at the booth said, the team working to improve FFXIV is working at least 10 times harder than the team assigned to improve FFXIII-2 from FFXIII. ^_^

Excellent find, but we need a 19 letter word. The judges assured our team they are there. (Rumor is there is a 28 letter word).

I was the leader for the Team that was defeated today, (also led the 15 letter word and partnered with another team on the 12)

I really thought we had it with the 15 letter, I didn't even consider the Great Katana words because I was sure the judge was going to disqualify it for the reasons outlined above. I heard from a guy who saw them register that it was almost DQ'ed.

There's always a longer word. I don't hold out hope we'll win the grand prize here, there 3 months for other fans to write a script and scour the data.

I'm CrysDark on twitter, hit me up if you guys need letters, I have 8 in my group and contact information from the other 7 from yesterday.

Hit me up on twitter maybe we can take out some of the words of the day. I'll be next to the booth in the morning. If not, then sent out a twitter with the letters you have and I'll do the same and maybe we can make something happen.

I myself am not going to comic con, I do know someone who was in the 15 though. I do however, still believe that the Hyugugusarinotachi name should be DQ'd. Like so many other names of items in Final Fantasy XI it was forced to be abbreviated due to space. Take for example, Creed Gauntlets +2 being forced to Crd. Gauntlets +2, Goetia Chausses +2 to Goet. Chausses +2 the limit is obviously short, under 20 and likely 18/19ish (though personally I've never seen 19)Another good example is the Hacchonenbutsu Dangozashi mentioned above, on the inventory screen is just says Hacchonenbutsu, However due to the nature of the Hyugugusarinotachi there isn't a really good cut off line or means to abbreviate. Now, if written in japanese the word would have no spaces, since that how the written language is. Then again, it would no longer be an english word at that point since its not spelled how it would be in english. If japanese words are allowed thats an entirely new ball game, and I should stop searching english wiki/forums and start searching japanese wiki/forums to help my friend out.

As a side note, He mentioned a 38 letter word (though now im hearing its 28) rumor has it the word is located in Final Fantasy III. However, upon asking my friends 2 claimed to have seen such a word while playing many years ago. As we know FFIII was not localized until recently on the DS, and since fan translations wouldn't count. I have reason to believe the elusive 38(28) letter word is actually localed in Final Fantasy VI. Just a tip. Personally I'd be overjoyed knowing I located the mythic word, regardless of if I or anyone I know gets anything.

TLDR - Reasons the 18 letter word should be DQ'd, Intel suggests the longest word may be in FFVI.

The 18 letter word was approved and counted officially. Not much can be done now except try and find a longer one

Well I did some searching and found the longest word in english is Antidisestablishmentarianism which also happens to be 28 letters. This means one of three things to me
A) This is the winning word only thing now is to find where its in Final Fantasy.
B) The word in question must be entirely made up with no historical back round.
C) the word is foreign but, I should point out I found very few words even in other languages that match that. I'm not familiar with all of the rules but, I'm guessing the word must be in english so that more or less rules out Foreign words.

"Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"
29 letters.
It is used by different FF charakters in dramatic scenes. ( Someones lost, got killed... every Story needs drama. So its related..somehow. )
Also used by different gamers, after beeing disapointed.( Less MP after patch and stuff like that. )
Maybe stolen/copied from a famous science fiction movie.

Hey....it is one word. :-)

It's bull they allowed the word but nothing we can do, I and my team had a blast putting this together for the 15 letter word. I watched the 18 letter word finish and it didn't look like they had nearly as much fun as we did. SE put together a really fun contest and it helped raise awareness at the con.

Now I want to go to Pax. :-)
