if nobody noticed in the cutscene/quest for the grand companys the arcanist summons a beast familiar. now if im not mistaken in ffxi mobs with familiar at the end of the name were from beast master jobs. its starting too seem to me like arcanist is a pet based job with some magic to boot. could be wrong but the summoning of a familiar mob by an arcanist in game is good evidence as to such. opinions?

All I know is you better be able to name your pet with the new beast master. I absolutely hated that in 11 you couldn't name your pet.

Shepherd has more chance to be the BST than Arcanist has.

According to .DAT mining, Arcanist specialises in traps of sorts...

But hey, SE can do whatever they want!

to my understanding Shepard is a gathering job which leads me to believe its what "farms" the pets for the arcanists. obviously this is all speculation at this point but things are starting to point to it. Yoshi p did say they were working on pets and chocobos i believe. and if arcanist is a trap setting type i think that goes hand in hand with having pets so to speak. if it truly is it would be a very good combo of things for a pet based job.

The sooner they add a pet class the sooner I can make an all (insert pet class here) linkshell.

Here's to hoping anyway.

Arcanists act as customs officers for the Limsa Port, regulating banned substances. They seem to be more item-focussed so working with traps and potions seems more likely than beastmaster.

The only use of Arcanist in prior FFs I'm aware of is in Tactics A2, but they mostly had a spell list similar to Thaumaturge (Drain, Gravity, etc.). Since that role is already taken, I have to assume Yoshi-P's poetic license has free reign in FFXIV's version of the class.

It would be interesting to see them be some sort of Chemist/Beast Master hybrid.

Only able to attack through a "Call Beast" like function like in XI where BST could call a familiar with a jug. Then they could use offensive "potions" specially made for use by only Archanists (that staff has to be used for something).

I know it's not likely, but still always fun to say "what if." =)

A chemist of any kind would be very interesting. Imagine a class based around confiscating illegal materials and using them in battle! they could heal HP and MP by tossing powders and potions at others, they could enfeeble and damage over time; they could really do anything, actually. >_>

They could even learn a few "Increase Potion effectiveness by 20%" traits for use on other classes! :D

right from FF tactics they could implement any of these jobs and I would be happy specially:

Geomancer
they have different days and terrain you are fighting enemy can be used for advantage to the party. This will add another complex srategy to the game party mechanics by making people "lure" enemy to different terrain, or make geomancer change terrains, or make tanks/pullers move enemy to terrains or elevations or days of the game/gods to be used this will make a awesome class.

Chemist
This is another favorite which would make a good healer/nuker by making poison potions/blind potions/etc they can get creative with this and make alchemist crafting make special things to enhance it a bit.

Time Mage
They can also get real creative with this also

all these jobs are completely new to FF11 if thats what they are goign for and all will add nice fresh look to game.

P.S- Id would be hilarious they add "Holy Swordsman: Orlandu " class to the game and break it lol.

Geomancer

I just can't see how that one would ever work in an MMO. You'll probably just have a lot of bitterly disappointed players who can't get an invite unless there happens to be a puddle they can stand in (to access their water spells, of course) wherever the party is going, and that sort of thing.

How do you compete with mages who can access all their spells no matter where they happen to be? Geomancer would either have to be a class with unworkable restrictions or one that doesn't live up to its name.

This post brings me back to the zam boards right before the Wings of the Goddess FFXI expansion. These and Chocobo Knight were all the rage, aside from Bacon Mage. Chemist is the only one I still approve of, especially in this game where crafters are touted as a class and not just a hobby.
