Why do mages get hit first?Follow

Why is it that when leve mobs pop they go right for the mage no matter where they are? It's my main complaint. Is there any good reason for it to be programed this way?

Because a common war tactic is to disable the strongest opponent first, and usually, the mage is the 1337ist member of any party.

Oh I see now. The tanks and DD are worthless so they just run past them XD

It just makes sense really(From the mobs point of view). Take out the ones with the least amount of HP. Taking out the mages first also makes the melee easier to deal with.

Not saying it's a fun thing to deal with, but it does make sense(It was somewhat like this in XI with smarter mobs like the beastmen that would try and silence a whm before like, a mnk)

In my experience, the leve mobs spawn aggroed to whoever started the leve quest. I could be wrong though.

Kirby is right. If you are doing leves in a group, and more than one member has the same leve, make sure it is the least squishy person who starts ad they instantly get agro on popped mobs.

Also make sure that if you are buffing or reviving you do so before you pop as both actions draw emnity to the healer.

Didn't think of it being the one that started the leve first. With the new changes that might not be such a problem since we can't/shouldn't fail leves anymore and sync everything. I'll pay attention to that and make sure the DD pops first. Thanks.

No problem. Few things in FFXIV make total sense to me, but with time, you can discover little quirks like that.

Who would you disable first:

1.) The low-damage, high-HP character with ample support and tons of defence?
2.) The high-damage character with few defences?
or
3.) The highest-damaging character who also heals and supports the party, enfeebles his/her targets, and who happens to have both the lowest HP and lowest defence?

Kill the mage first, tank last; it's BCNM-101.

You're not complaining that monsters have decent AI... are you?

(In all honestly, it's probably whoever popped it first. It would be silly, however, to lament decent AI; who wants to fight something stupid, what does that prove?)

Its definitely the player who starts the Leve.

When you start the leve, you usually get instantly attacked by the leve mobs. they can be took off you from a tank of course.

my guess as to why they aggro the quest starter is that when you start it the mobs are spawned with a very low enmity towards you.
