I won't go into detail on how much I hate this new "feature" but simply care to ask a question.

In the past I used to put damaged gear up with a 5k Gil payment, regardless of rank, but this honestly seems like a bit too much now with the gear being damaged after a KO and Dark Matter being used for repairs, seeing as I get KO'd at the same rate as before.

So my question is, how much Gil is everyone offering for the various ranks of gear?

In case anyone is interested the NPC prices for Dark Matter is as follows:

Grade 1 100g

Grade 2 600g

Grade 3 1500g

Grade 4 2,800g

Grade 5 4,500g

and of course which grades are used for which ranks:

Grade 1 Dark Matter ranks 1-10.
Grade 2 Dark Matter ranks 11-20.
Grade 3 Dark Matter ranks 21-30.
Grade 4 Dark Matter ranks 31-40.
Grade 5 Dark Matter ranks 41-50.

Generally speaking I see 4 things happening with repair rewards.

1) People don't get how much DM costs and put up 1,000 for Grade 5 repair
- I just don't bother -

2) People put the exact cost of the DM or offer the DM itself as the repair reward
- I repair these as it doesn't cost me anything and I get some SP out of it. Plus if I HQ the repair and i conserve the DM then I get a bonus -

3) People offer the Grade x1000 as a reward (e.g. 5 = 5,000, 4 = 4,000, 3 = 3,000)
- I repair these as I still make 500-1,500 profit per repair -

4) People offer more or even double the cost of the DM as the reward (e.g. 5 = 6,000-9,000, 4 = 5,000-6,000)
- I repair these as the profit I make essentially pays for my own repairs -

In my linkshell, we usually go with option 2 for internal repairs so as not to be a cost burden to the crafters.

I pay based on how bad i need something repaired lol. Was paying 10k for higher lvl stuff. I usually pay 5-8k just out of respect.

Also......... when repairing something that is badly damaged you get more sp for doing so. I think it helps make repairs necessary since dying happens a lot. Which is good for the system to have a direct purpose due to the many deaths across Eorzea.

I can repair anything up to rank 35, but anything above that, I offer 2-4k above cost of the Grade 4-5 Dark Matter.

1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k.

It's only because I don't remember the cost of dark matter.

I did not know one got SP when repairing something, that's good to know. I suppose I'll start offering 1k over the NPC price until the price of Dark Matter starts dropping in the wards. People are selling dark matter well over the NPC price and I don't know who in their right mind is actually buying it.

Amount put up should be at least the cost of the DM - as someone mentioned above if repairs are done by friend or LS, usually just offering the DM or the price of the DM used is probably fine.

If I need to put item up for repair, cost of DM + a tip based on the rank of the item should be good.

Yeah, I've seen ppl offering 1k for a grade 5 repair or similar - I just ignore these for now. Hopefully the cost of DM will become common knowledge soon. I've also seen ppl doing stuff like offering a grade 3 DM for a grade 5 repair - not sure if this is some kind of con attempt, if they are just clueless, or maybe just a mistake lol.

The SP you get is kind of dependant on your rank. Just like with crafting, if you are rank 40 crafting a rank 10 recipie you won't get any SP. If you repair an item much lower than your rank you will get less sp than repairing some at a similar or higher level. I've gotten like 150-200 sp on sime high level GLD, WVR and TAN repairs I've done and only like 5-10 SP on some low items. I am not quite sure what the rules of SP are for repairing, I just like to repair stuff.

And people will always overprice items. When I was ranking ALC at lower ranks I would check the wards for cheap fine sand and alumen and fine people selling them for 1,000 and 2,000 gil when they can be bought from NPCs for 350 and 1,200ish respectivly. I guess not everyone checks databases like ZAM and YG for any NPCs that sell the item, or they just hope to make a profit off people who don't know better.
