Hey guys I know there are many threads about GPUs but i just wanted to ask if anyone know about the 6770 cards and FFIXV. I did a few searches online and most said that the 5770 and 6770 cards were pretty much identical with the 6770 falling a bit behind cause of it being newer and has less updates for it so far. I started playing FFXIV late last week and I'm playing on a weak old 8400 card LMAO i know..... but it does work for the time being till I upgrade. Cards I have found in my price range are the 460s, 5770s, and a few 500 series cards. But since I see many 6770 cards for pretty cheap I was just wondering how they would hold up on FFIXV. I'm not looking for max settings or even super high settings, but mainly want mid grade settings. Thx ahead of time for any input you guys can give me cause the sooner I figure out all this GPU stuff I will make the purchase.

The 550 card i was looking at was ASUS ENGTX550 TI DC/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 in case anyone wanted to give me advice on that card as well. I can get it off newegg for $130 ATM. I don't know to much about GPUs so thats why i ask lol.

From what I've seen, I can't tell a difference between the 6770 and the 5770. Whichever is cheaper, I guess.

Though, you can get an HD 6850 for about the same price as a GTX 460, and the 6850 is definitely better. I'd advise against getting a video card under $150, personally. The lifespan/performance go down significantly under that price range. $130 -> $150 is a pretty big jump, and will land you a card that will last a very long time.

Thx for the reply Phil. Most of the cards I'm looking at are on sale ATM or have some kind of a deal/rebate and are pretty close to $150. One card i was looking at says the list price is $200 with -$70 total in savings and rebates. Tonight i made my window a bit smaller and the game was playing pretty decent with minor lag, but it still looks like crap LOL. And i know the old saying "you get what you pay for". I think i have my choices narrowed down to a few cards. I do have another question tho. Is it a big difference between the 128 , 192 , and 256-bit cards, like is it super noticeable?

The difference is mainly in the memory bandwidth. A larger bus width (i.e.: 256-bit) allows for more data to be transferred at the same time. What's the link to the deal on the $200 card?

My general advice would be not to invest in a card that scores under 2,000 in this list, particularly because of how demanding FFXIV is. (Again, the point being that if you try to go cheap now, you're only looking at making another upgrade soon down the road.) Those top tier cards will have probably 4-5 years of shelf life in them before you're to the point where you'd want to upgrade again, but most of those also get expensive quickly. Each dollar above ~$200 just doesn't bring in nearly as much performance.

Not like you're looking to spend that much anyway, but it's worth mention.

I run the HD 5770 and I've had nothing but good times with it.

It's out of stock but this might help give you an idea.

The 5xxx series has been out of production for a while now due to the 6xxx series, so the remaining ones in stock have been slowly vanishing. But, again, the 6770 is basically the same card.

I'm guessing it's kinda like how the nVidia 9800 GT was basically a 8800 GT? Beats me.

IMO, no.

The two cards you have in mind now are both very solid, you should be in great shape with either. It's mostly down to personal preference at this point. Their performance in games tend to be pretty even. The biggest difference is that the 6850 draws significantly less power under load.

Thx once again for the fast reply Phil. 6850 is the winner then. It comes with 3 free games i think. Also the reason for the cards i picked is they both have lifetime warranties and that was a big thing for me. Might order this weekend but will prolly wait till next weekend just to see if any deals pop up on this card lol. Anyway thx again for ur help.n/
