Well after a week of trying to return to the game, but being over come with loneliness when I log on, I figure its time to declare one of the servers a "Starting" server.

One of the many things FFXI did right, is send new players to the same server giving us a community to log into.

After checking the forums, and creating characters on multiple servers, only Uldah seems to have any activity on any of the starting areas.

So lets newbie or returnbies all go to Mysidia, higher population server so hopefully they're will be higher levels to help out with information and stuff XD.

See you there, my name will be Muse Aoede.

Edit: Spread the word :D

Good luck with that.

I might suggest that since you are taking up the banner to bring all the newcomers to Mysidia, you might want to pop over and give a hello to all the LS masters, as I assume you will be making your own LS. They are all really great people, and like to work together; and you might benefit from their help.

I really have no intention of leading a LS with the ammount of knowledge I lack in this game atm. I just want to see people playing.. it is an mmo after all.

A linkshell is supposed to be a community, more of a group of people with similar goals, ideals... And it would fit your thread. Getting all the newcomers together to experience the world and learn together is a pretty good idea.

It shouldn't have anything to do with how much you know at all. Thats what I believe...

Sorry I have to disagree with you there. I don't expect a LS leader to know everything, but I do think a leader has to have an idea of the game basics, ie: important NPC locations, xp cap per mob, and how to get to important areas at least. I really can't stand it when I ask a LS leader a basic question and get an "I dont know" reply for a game thats almost a year old.

That being said though, any returning players that want to start an LS on Mysidia, send me a tell, i'd love to join.

When FFXI first came out, LS were being formed despite no one knowing anything. It really is about community first. LS =/= Wiki. If you're starting an end game LS, that's something else.

Looks like people are telling you to start a LS, or eat the Death slushie.

If I ever return, it will be to the same server I left in hopes of finding old friends. Not really looking forward to starting a new character on a new server.

You'll have to forgive them. The FF community likes to pretend it's a friendly one, but the truth is that anyone who tries to establish anything to help people often gets the shoulder. I don't think it's such a bad idea, and the comments about popping over there and running it by the LS masters as if they own the server, or starting a LS of your own instead of reaching out to the possibly emerging community via established forums, are just examples of how unhelpful and unsupportive this community really can be.

They missed the point, but don't worry. As things improve, the populations will pick up. It's just going to take some time.

If you interpreted that I meant that the LS Masters as completly owning the server, then you have missed my point. I stand by what I said in that the LS Masters that have advertised themselves in the Server forums are great people, and are very helpful. If he decides to pop over there and say hello, he will recieve responses to help him out. I was not trying to give anyone the shoulder or be unhelpful at all.

Yeah, if someone is trying to organize a bunch of new players to play together on a server and suggests that person also start a linkshell so they can actually communicate with eacother in game, they must be really unhelpful and mean-spirited!

Oh dear, didn't want this post to turn into a random argument about how nice players are... I just want to play the game with people and see people walking around & talking... nothing more than that.

Yeah, you certainly have to do that... since there's no way to, I don't know, practice playing your Rank 50s or anything.
