So basically for the first 1-2 days that you play a class you get a break on gear damage, and then for the rest of your career for x months you suffer again.

Why even do this?

That seems quite fair to me. I don't carry repair items for less than R20 equipment, the stuff is worn so little for me due to price and availability that it's often cheaper as a solo plaer just to wear overranked gear to grow into. Around R20 is where I start wearing appropriate gear on my classes. I would assume most other sem-casual solo players do the same from what I've seen.

If you think the Gear Damage system is fair to begin with...

In any case, patch is online now - its a small one 8megs :D

Good question, if they decided to go with this method, they really ought to have just made gear lv1-20 not have durability. And converted everyone's rank 1 to rank 2 matter, and removed rank 1 from the game.

So I just dl this.
6 seconds worth of patch, a pointless adjustment, and the servers are down for 2 hours?

I don't get how they STILL suck so bad at patching. Not to beat a dead example horse- but can't they look at how EVERY other MMO does patches/updates and see that they look like ******* preschool kids pretending their tricycles are racecars.

The Death/repair penalty immunity is based on your rank, not the gear rank, so grade 1 and 2 material still have some use...

You can also wear down a rank1 weapon from normal use. /shrug

Wait, waht are you complaining about? Server downtime for a patch is standard procedure. 6 second download is short, and adjustment is a quality of life upgrade for new and low-ranked players.

Why exactly are you complaining, all I see is a good thing.

Haha I didn't actually read what I posted. This is just for KO's, well then never-mind.

I was scrolling through the posts, but someone already caught the misunderstanding...the lack of penalty is based on class rank, not gear rank. This is good for people who are just coming back to the game or joining for the first time. Repair matter isn't expensive individually, but by the time you hit Grade 3 or 4, it adds up when you're sitting on three to four sets of gear for different classes.

It seems as if they have been increasingly adding things that make starting out easier...maybe this means 1.20 is going to be the final stepping stone to PS3 release.

OMG WTF.

I Purchased 300 grade 1 Dark Matter AND THEY DO THIS TO ME?

WTF SE WTF. YOU BETTER REIMBURSE ME!

/sarcasm.

Glad they are doing it. Low level gear being repaired was a joke anyway, I just left it broken.

yeah if its just upon KO, I have no idea what the point is really. I really had thought it was just no durability loss for that level range.

It's simple, it's a reduction to the penalty new players will suffer while dying. New players are probably going to die doing stuff, because they're new. Now when they die they don't have to deal with having to repair all their low level gear frequently.

Huh? The patch notes on the lodestone are very clear and Ramsey copied them correctly, are you saying it would be better the way you suggest or something?

I don't understand why people hate this adjustment. The durability loss on dying and returning is really freaking harsh. The low level gear will still wear slowly from normal wear and tear, but the excruitating loss on durability from dying isn't prevalent until later on.

I really should have put a /sarcasm tag on my earlier post. While it is funny that they have already made a recent change obsolete (shortest change ever!), its not a big deal.
To anyone complaining about patching: The fact that they have 2 hours of downtime once every other week - once a month is quite the accomplishment. Compared to the 800lb Gorilla, which has maintenance EVERY Tuesday for 3 hours, then 8 hours or more of downtime on patch days, its not bad. Also, if the patch is slow, consider looking into port forwarding or opening select ports, it worked for me!
