so i got ffxiv when it was released and had a few friends that planed to play together all good till it came out and no1 really seemed to like it for reasons we all know. now its been about a year and i looked at the patches and said why not go back and give it a try. i picked a server ( besaid) after deleting my old character since i had no idea where i left off. i play the game a little here n there for the past couple days but everything seems to be dead.. i though well maybe its cause my time of day ( i'm from us but currently in germany ).n go to search the little market thing to see how the changes they made are and boom.. theres next to no lower level gear at all or much gear for that matter in general (marauder). so now i'm almost wondering if i should start over again or just say the heck with it (altho i rather start over).

my question is

1) if i plan to stay playing what would be the better server for me to pick since it doesn't seem like theres too many ppl on this 1 and its well lonely my time zone is utc +1 berlin but i'm still used to utc -5 EST ( 6 hour difference) too for the most part cause i have family there.

2) what would be a good starting city i don't mind Limsa Lominsa but i've seen the 1st couple missions twice now and don't think i want to again unless thats the better choice population wise

1: I've played on Wutai since release and, while population has fallen since then, it's picked up a fair bit since 1.18 launched. I'm in the UK and there's normally a decent amount of people on...obviously it picks up at US peak times (which is fine by me as my internal clock seems to have a few springs missing). However, having only ever played on this server, I can't say if others have a healthier population. I'm sure someone else can though!

2: It's still very much Ul'dah centred at the moment. However, that seems to be changing a bit (a little bit) with the introduction of companies and new dungeons. With the ease of teleporting around and the upcoming introduction of other modes of travel I don't think your starting city makes a big difference. I went with Gridania because I liked the aesthetic. While I soon got tired of the mazy Black Shroud it didn't take too long to run to Ul'dah and Limsa and it's been teleports from then on (my poor depleted anima...) I'd just go for the city that you like the look of!

Ul'dah on Besaid is always busy when I'm on, even during EU prime time. No matter what server your on, LL and Gridania are still partially deserted since Ul'dah is the center city. As for market wards your best bet is Ul'dah again. You can basically go from R1-20 on starter gear though. It doesn't matter which city you pick as your starter except for storyline. They all merge early on anyways. No matter how busy a server is, your best bet to do anything is with a linkshell. The game was designed to be played solo, so if you want to party or do events it's easier to do them with linkshell friends. Check the linkshell list of whichever server you end up on and good luck.
