anyone know what the easiest way of making gil is at low lvls ( less than 20) thats not leve or quests i'm finding it hard to get gear and repairs done and things i've been trying to sell ( loots ect) don't seem to be going

I made money when I was starting out by selling crystals I wasn't using, in bazaar or at my retainer. Marmot pelts (and any other pelts) gave decent gil when sold to NPCs.

Also Cotton Yarn seemed to sell reasonably well in the wards and it gave me something to do with all those Cotton Bolls I was getting.

Finally, hate to say it, but leves are a reliable source of small amounts of gil. The days of the 50k+ gil leves has gone but with the gil reward and the drops you can sell to the NPC they more than cover the cost of any gear damage you should get.

Starting out I found Limsa to be a better city for me. You can purchase fish from Holasfhis and turn those into shards as a R1 ALC. Maiden Carp and Tiger Cod. Its a win win to start because you level ALC for zero cost, supply shards for your other crafts, and sell shards to fund some other things. Once you hit the SP cap on them though it becomes a drag, but by then you made some gil, leveled some other jobs, and got your feet wet. Just a rounded example, it takes me around an hour with hasty hands to make a stack of earth shards at a cost of 30k investment (fish and lightning shards) and they sell for 180k.

FSH is also a nice job to go along with ALC because you open up more fish to shard options then the ones available from NPC. The fish themselves do not sell for all that much anymore. You would need to be in the R30+ range to make it worthwhile to sell the fish over turning them into shards/crystals for your own use or sale. People are always going to need shards and crystals. Even with a ward full of overpriced shards most people will buy a stack over making them.

Farm sheepskin, you can sell the reg skins for like 4-5k each and the +3s for 7-10k each.

That might be difficult at 17. But it sounds like a capital idea for me ^_^.

my advice is to browse the wards on your server, see what sells and for what. Avoid trying to make money off of things people mass produce to level up - try to supply the materials for those crafts.

But really, your best bet is to rank up. The higher rank you are the better money you get from leves and the more variety of mobs you can hunt to supplement your income.

Check that out too to give you a rough idea of what things are selling for.

Also don't look down your nose at crafting. I've seen relatively low level crafting leves give some nice materials as a reward. As you said, leves are a limited commodity - well crafting leves give you an extra 8 leves per reset. Each will give you a little gil and some materials you can sell or make into something else.

Also pelts seem to npc well and marmots are easy to kill.

I would also suggest taking a look at the gathering jobs. They are kind of a grind to level up, but they will make a profit at some point. I believe another post suggested to supply other crafts? Well your best bet to supply those other crafts would be to do gathering jobs. You can make some money and level at the same time. Win Win situation. Other members in my LS have said that they've made a killing off mining. I, personally, have been leveling botany so I can gather my own materials to level carpentry. I've leveled up to almost 30 w/o much cost at all.

What I do is farm Aldgoat Skin, drops quite fast and normal sell for around 800gil, but due to the fact that there is tons upon tons of goats around horizon, and they drop so fast its well worth it, my best way of making gil

at low level your really shouldn't be spending any money. at most u spend money on the first weapon from the npc in wards, 10-20k i would say, and that weapon can take you all the way to 20. armor just upgrade with pieces you get from leves.

try gathering in La Noscea. Once you are rank 15, you can do Bloodshore and get lots of Walnut and Yew logs. Others have mentioned alchemy and fishing. Also cooking is coming into the light now with dungeons and the importance of knights bread etc.

As far as farming sheepskins are very nice. Also right outside of Muy Tuy Cellars north of Emeral Moss, you can kill R20ish wolfs. They drop buffalo hides like there is no tomorrow and those sell consistently for 15k a piece or so.

Also look for dungeon hares that drop the corals, goldsmithers use those. Brimstone is also quite valuable if you can find some level appropriate bombs. Basically like another user said, look in the wards and try to find a farmable item, and go in that direction.

Principal: Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

hes right alchemy and fishing is the way to go. i started the game like that and before i dumped most of my gil into leveling all my crafts and jobs i had 18 mil at one point. shard prices have dropped since then but you will still make a profit. also u can buy fish that make wind shards for dirt cheap from the fish selling npc near limsa market wards. even after the price of the fish u should still make profit off of it. but it is incredibly monotonous. i think the easier route is main story quests and grand company quests in your case.
