I'm currently returning a 17" laptop and it's specs and memory is way better than my desktop, but when you read up on FF14 you learn that even Amd premium cards are just budget cards when you buy laptops under a 1000. It's always about a dedicated video card.Smiley: frown

Get a desktop. Integrated graphics cards will not run any current gen game well. If you absolutely have to have a laptop for mobility then you will have to pay a premium to get one that will run XIV with any moderately high setting and still get good performance.

In short, you want the other Dell.. alienware.com

An AMD 6850 will cost you around $150US and will run FFXIV decently.

unfortunately, since it is a laptop, you cannot upgrade the graphics card.

The short answer: No.

It is something you can probably have done, but the cost for the card and the labor for someone else to put it in... you may as well just save up for a desktop. There is a reason that the largest thread on this forum is about building a computer. Pretty much required.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is... Maybe but it depends on a whole lot of factors that may or may not be present in your notebook. Chances are, that if it's an integrated only then you won't be able to do anything with it. Even laptops that you can upgrade the GPU in (such as the m15x), you are opening a whole can of worms regarding temperatures and space limitations and fan requirements.

My advice would be to either invest in a desktop, or sell that laptop and get yourself something that is actually designed for gaming. The Alienware line just got a refresh, so there are some very fast sandy bridge machines for good prices that will be able to handle FFXIV.

I just bought this guy and it runs the game perfectly fine. It's a little laggy in high populated areas, but that is because I refuse to downgrade the graphics from high to medium.

Another line to look at is the RoG (Republic of Gamers) line from Asus. I have been checking them out, and if you are ok with the "chiclet" style keyboard, there are some serious deals to be had. Good hardware, a slick design, and it even sports a backlit keyboard although it lacks the color control you would get with an Alien. Still, that's not important to some folks so I'd recommend taking a look at them.

And FYI - on Newegg the M15x is going for about 1k refurbed

That will play XIV, and it's half of what you would have paid for the same computer new (They are discontinued line). If you are willing to spend a couple hundred more than the link that Sal posted and want the flash of AW, check it out.

Unless you have a good reason for needing to be mobile as it relates to XIV, just get a desktop. Intel did themselves in by releasing the sandy bridge processors and it would be to your benefit to take advantage. This processor could have easily cost twice what it does now and still been well worth the money.

I think you are also overlooking the role that the processor plays. XIV is incredibly processor dependent and the i5 you listed doesn't really have the muscle either.
