I played FFXI and afterwards i played wow. I enjoyed both but i'm ready for a new game but my
current comnputer wont let me play the game. I really want to try FFXIV and was thinking of
getting a laptop to play the game but hearing all the bad reviews from the launch i woried about investing such a huge amount of money into a laptop for it. I know things have gotten better but how much i'm not sure. I also hear that its free as of now. I have the time to play the game, and really want to explore a new world. My favorite job in FFXI was beastmaster. Has the game improved enought to be worth the effort or will it soon improve in the near future.
Basicly is it worth investing into a new laptop to play this game?

Only you will be able to answer whether it's "worth it" or not. Personally, I'd probably invest in a desktop to play as it would be less expensive, and I'm not saying that because I'm one of the militant fanbois that think desktop PC or GTFO (I play on a m15x).

I just think that if you are on the fence, you might not want to lay down the 1-2k for a good laptop at this point, especially if you really don't plan to use it for any other games that your current machine cannot handle.

Just out of curiosity, what are the specs on your current PC? Perhaps a few upgrades are all that is needed.

The game itself isn't yet worth paying $10/mo for. So no it's not worth buying a new computer for either and especially if you want to buy a laptop to play it. Buying a laptop is like paying twice as much for half the performance, then when you play the game you will really have buyers remorse.

You'll end up spending a lot of money to play the game on minimal settings and the payoff will be that it's almost enjoyable. Overall it's just not worth it yet.

The game has potential, but wait and see what happens. Then when it is finally worth playing, but a desktop so you can actually enjoy the game. IMO

Yeah the only thing I can say to people is to wait. Despite the game improving with each update, the initial mess still isn't completely cleaned up yet. And it would be wrong of me to tell someone "Man, you should totally get it now. You don't know what you're missin'!" It's not there yet.

Waiting would be my overall suggestion to all kinds, but especially for people who sound unsure and would have to drop big bucks on a new machine just to try it.

Unless you absolutely need a laptop then don't do that for gaming. I have never had one for gaming purposes but everyone i know says they dont perform as good as a desktop of equal hardware. They also get very hot while running high end games. And on top of all that it will cost you a bit more to get the same thing in laptop form. Oh and they are a pain in the *** to upgrade.

I second this. In fact you could easily buy both a decent laptop (for portability purposes) and a gaming desktop, that would play FFXIV nicely, for less money than just a gaming laptop.

Wait it out. If you're wanting to get a PC just to play the game, just wait for the PS3 version and get that. I heard the PS3 also dropped in price recently.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
