Hi, I've been a FFXI player since it's EU launch and also gave FFXIV a try when it was first released.

When I first got into the game it all seemed a bit messy without any real Auction House/messy chat log etc etc. Has anything changed much since it's release that makes it worth giving a second try? Has the UI and general gameplay changed much?

I haven't been following updates of this game but I'm kinda hoping to see a better game since i love how it looks and want to explore a new game...

In my opinion, it's a superficially different game. It's been tweaked, and had -some- content added, but it's fundamentally the same game. If you didn't like the core of the game then, you almost certainly won't like it now.*

*My own opinion, please don't flame me.

It's actually fun now.

It's not perfect by any means, but it's definitely playable.

I don't have the "I want to log on" feeling I had with XI, but it is enjoyable for the odd hour or two here and there.

What were your primary reasons that you stopped playing? Then I can figure out and give you a better response from there.

Well the primary reason I left was in fact (in my opinion) a badly designed UI and lag in every single action i made (even with a very well spec'ed gaming computer).

I kinda enjoyed the class system, and of course the new world (read: incredible graphic design). I just need to know if SE has implemented some fixes - and hopefully drastic ones - to the playability and UI in the game. With playability I'm mostly pointing to Menu navigating, speed of server response to actions etc.

Thanks in advance for any response :)

No, you will not like the game at this time. Stay tuned.

The UI has been greatly improved(the speed/response of it). There are still some things they need to fix a bit like the party search and some of the menus but in my opinion there is nothing making the game unplayable anymore. I get good fps now and everything responds quick. I think they even improved performance quite a bit. Before i upgraded pcs i was playing on a dual core and noticed a big change in performance after one of the patches around 1.17.

Yes, this has been done.

I have recently returned and am having a great time playing the new content now that the fundamentals of gameplay have improved. There is still much to be done to make FFXIV great, but the extreme lack of playability has been fixed.

There is no cost for you to see the changes for yourself.

Here is my story: Return to Eorzea.

Just out of curiousity(and because it happens on a fairly consistent basis), why didn't you just reinstall and find out if you'd like it anyway?

Let us know how you feel about the game after you have tried it some. The reasons you left seem kind of similar to the reasons a lot of people I know who have quit quit. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts since you have been away a long time, as you can see by this thread there is quite a contrast in opinions of people who have kept up with it. I kinda wanna gauge by your response if I should even bother trying to rerecruit some of my gaming buddies.

Well, it seems I have more trouble starting to play than I had playing it when it was first released. First of all my Square Enix ID don't work (changed password, went through **** and back with customer support etc) and now been waiting some hours for them to figure out what's happened...

I remember my FFXI account got hacked some years ago and then it was a quick call and done with it, now it's a pain in the *** to even navigate their website.

Tried creating a new account but oh wait, my e-mail is tied to old one (which they wont send ID and password to) and so is my FFXIV reg codes.

Should it really be so complicated to give me my ID + any password when i have all reg. codes linked to account, all billing info and even security questions with answers?

Rant off. Just had to blow out some steam ;_;

I wouldn't say "a bit" - the party system is barely existent as it is and neither user-friendly nor very functional. As for unplayable, the game is playable, but there's still only a pair dungeons and... that's it. Stats are broken; jobs aren't here; crafting is waiting to get fixed; gatherers, well, kind of suck for how bland they are; there's no endgame; etc. etc. playable, yes, but as to why you'd want to play, well...

But, yes, this is true; there's really no reason not to try if you're curious. You can always leave for another few months of updates.

Just don't expect the game to be release-worthy until SE says it is, since, as of this time, they're openly admitting that it's not.

Thanks for the updates guys (gals), one thing SE certainly haven't fixed is their god **** customer support.

Read on for amusement...

Sent a mail to SE customer support thinking "well this will be done in no time!"
~ 6 AM night after i get a Mail from SE saying they've recieved the mail (36 hours after ive sent in request for ID) and will be looking into it.

Today, 2 days later (the maximum ammount of time SE say they will respond within) I get another mail, saying I've sent mail to the wrong address, since the site automaticly pointed me to US and not EU customer support. I guess it was too much to ask of them to at least say that in the first mail ;_;

Back to school I guees.

It's certainly true that FFXIV makes the worst possible first impression.

Square Enix Support Center:

9AM-5PM (PST) Mon-Fri. Closed weekends.

Try this.

It sucks SE still treats people this way. I hoped they had learned their lesson. I guess no need for me to start reinviting friends to play yet :/

Well I took contact with the live chat and was only person in line. Got contact at once, and after he checked that all my codes etc was correct he said "OK thanks, I've sent you an email with all the account information to (insert my email)".

Now, 7 hours later, stil no mail =(

I'm just thinking, with the network speed companies like SE should have, should this really take so long? I'm flabbergasted...

Ah man Crasyk! I was in a delight, I didn't realize you were running into a known issue.

In order to get an account restoration, you'll have to have the initial DVD key and a lot of time. I wouldn't bother with that if I were you, once your save game is gone it's pretty much always gone. You could drive down to a bank, get a registered owner thing, and mail it or basically even walk into the HQ in California on floor 2. They mostly just throw them away, and don't sell the game anymore (kinda like Scratchees... I used to love those scratch cards when I was a kid but apparently they got banned 'cause it made people into undesirable gamblers with the candy cigarettes). I would toss you the phone number of the man in charge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOlQiR2x2fs , but I threw it away a couple years ago xD In FFXI I was a samurai/corsair/bard super awesome team member, but then I was Jenny from Maine (or so the Chinese would have us believe).

If you want to play, I could find somewhere that actually sells a valid new FFXIV box, and we could register together? Or if you want something else I could friend you a cool game on Steam or something.

I have the FFXIV box and all Victrola, just need the Square Enix ID, kinda sucks, since i can't do jack **** about it. On another note, if you want to join in on the new adventure I'd be happy to have company :) I'll let you know when i can get my Id sent to me from SE!

Did a second round of online chat since no mail arrived. This time i got my ID but password didn't work, another online chat showed me since they had sent my password to my main mail it didn't change, so had to send it to my other mail (I don't understand this at all tbh), then it got changed.

Got to log in last night :)
