[dev1133] Battle Regimens

* The following revision, planned for patch 1.19, is still in development, and therefore subject to change.
•Patch 1.19 will see the suspension of Battle Regimens.
We are currently in the process of rebuilding the framework of the battle system, which involves large-scale revisions to the enemy claiming and linking systems as well as damage calculations. Unfortunately, these changes will render Battle Regimens unusable, and so we have decided to suspend their use in patch 1.19. We aim to have a new and optimized regimen system in place after the adjustments to battle classes have been completed alongside the launch of the job system.
* The reimplementation schedule is yet to be determined.

No, this was said by a dev in the official forums last week but never made the front page. I thought the same thing when I read this topic haha.

Battle Regimens ...Bah! All I want is to shoot an arrow and have a mage put fire on my arrow like the video. Is it a year since that video was released and all us FF fans went ape over this game? The drunken hit and run imperial pilot makes me laugh every time I see that video now Smiley: laugh

The idea of casters adding magic to a character's weapon was shown in game too, during one of the gameplay videos, though it was unclear if it was just a cutscene (it likely was.)

Here's to hoping they totally remove battle regimens as is, and do not re-implement them in any way that resembles how they currently work. I would take skillchains over the current BR system. At least they had cool effects.

Skillchains, battle regimens, whatever they are, they should be necessary for difficult content, should not force the player to become useless while they wait for their party members to activate their part, and should be awesome to behold.

One of my biggest problems with FFXI and with FFXIV is that so many of the cool effects are totally erased be it by changing gears (FFXI) or activating another skill (FFXIV) they need to keep in mind that visual fidelity isn't everything, how their animation systems actually execute matter. If they need to speed up some animations, or make some major adjustments, I would gladly wait, but I am tired of not seeing an effect play, it's difficult to tell what's going on when they don't.
