I have been playing for a couple days now, and for the most part enjoy the feel of the game now days. There are still some issues present (no official windowed-fullscreen mode option yet...) that amazes me with FFXI's learnings, the game is still decent enough to play for both my wife and I. The next big step is trying to find a decent Linkshell in game in the coming days, as of right now we're both running solo/duo however.
I do have some questions though, things I have not been able to find through Google, or just overwhelming compared to my FFXI knowledge.
1) In FFXI you could use the /shutdown command to exit the game and not have to worry about going through PlayOnline/character select/ect. Is there something like that in FFXIV, as I have not been able to find anything of that nature yet, and have been limited to the multiple logout menu options. More then a few times my kids have told us we left our games on when we hit logout and left the room, forgetting that we went to the character select screen from that point.
2) As of right now I am playing a Pugilist and rather enjoying it. I did enjoy MNK tanking in FFXI, and hand to hand combat in general even though my main was a DRG. There is one aspect I have not gotten a great grasp of yet, and that is the various Evade abilities. Is there a way to easily tell when you evade through counters, icon, or some other methods other then watching the combat log scroll by? I ask because, for a while I assumed when the icon lit up both the TP and the evade conditions were met, but this is apparently incorrect. I have found that the window for using Evade based abilities seem to be rather small and easy to miss.
3) The last thing is regarding macros and combat in general, which does slightly tie into the above question. Combat in FFXIV is much faster then FFXI was, and as such, usually I find that toggling between various menus seems to hamper my attack rotation much more then it did with my DRG in FFXI. Is there any way to have your three hotbars or macros bars available to see all the time, or are you more or less expected to continually swap screens like in FFXI? Could this also be a case of me simply overusing my abilities and not relying on my AA enough?
I believe that is it for the time being. Thanks in advance.
