Everything sounds promising but kinda bummed Airship rides will be so quick. Not to be too nostalgic, but I thought it was rad to take a little break while riding airships in ffxi and scope the sites from above. Made the world seem so vast.

Anyway. . .

/em goes back to lurking

I haven't been around in a long time but I thought that all of this stuff was coming before the end of summer, aka 9/22. I am disappointed to read this... When this game be good :'(
I really loved FFXI and I want to love FFXIV but I just can't play it when the basic core mechanics haven't even been implemented yet!

I'm happy with quick airship travel. I want to spend more of my in game time playing the game, and not waiting to play the game.

If you think they haven't been prior to this, you may need to think a little bit harder. I highly doubt they were going "oh look, it's 5pm time to go home."

Well the main point is that they are aware that they must put out results fast to save this game.

I loved some of those pics of Yoshi looking like he was hit by a bus simply because he was so tired.

airship rides were the only spare time I had in FFXI to eat and use the bathroom! Bring them back or i'll starve Q_Q

I agree that there are more important things to deal with. But maybe it was just one thing on the list that was easier to get out in this patch. Or maybe it's a part of bigger things like quests and raids. Maybe there is going to be chocoknight type raids/quests!!!!!! Where you can mount your trusty bird, gear them up, and ride into battle!!!! Maybe you can only get to certain new instances by way of airship!!!!! Open up your minds and make that glass half full :). I think the airships and chocos are going to be a good thing even without my hopes and dreams above ! IMO it will open up more players to stay in their home cities more. And use the new means of travel to go back and fourth to look for items and/or parties. As for mail system I think that is going to totally kill the economy. If you are not using set items put them up on retainer, NPC them, or just toss them. If every person had two or three "mule" characters, that's 200-300 or 300-900 items (including all retainers!!!) not being traded on the market ward. If everyone had a surplus of items at their disposal, no one would buy anything from market ward! I also agree that content is the #1 thing that should be on the list. There is a lot that people deem "wrong" with the game but if they are fixing one or two of them while adding content to keep us busy and happy every patch, I'm all for it. So what jobs are not here yet we are getting more raids/quests. So what we got travel over mail system at least we have new things to do and different things to accomplish. I'm happy with the direction this game is going. It's still far from complete and that is why it's free! So I say keep giving us little by little so by the time it's complete and it has a monthly fee I'll be happy to pay to play and still have a lot to look foward to !!! Sorry for the long rant lol :P

That's my two sense. Take it or blast it I don't care :).

There are not enough spaces and things don't sell fast enough. Honestly NOT having space is worse for the economy - especially for low and mid level gear. I would actually level weaver (which is only 11 or something now) and put low level gear on the wards if I could send items to my other characters to sell on the wards. As it is, because I care about being a culinarian more than leveling weaver, all of my space is filled with culinarian items.

It also just kills my interest in the game and stresses me out to be faced with the choice: throw this away or be able to pick up nothing more. If the markets worked better I wouldn't feel the need to hoard all my culinarian mats - but I dare you, go see what you can find for culinarian mats on the wards - they are either in small quantities, horribly overpriced or non existent.

If I could mail my culinarian ingredients to a mule I would actually be crafting more armor and weapons and taking the time to sell them. Because I have no room to sacrifice 10-20 spaces of inventory, I don't bother making those things - and there are almost never any low-level gears on the wards (and what is there is ridiculously overpriced)

They also added a little bit more about this...

Sorry for my initial lack of explanation about this.
For the system we are planning, we are making it possible to select the speed you want to travel based on your play style. If you would like to travel very fast, you can skip the cut scene and instantly be transported to your destination. If you would like to take your time traveling on the airship, you can. Of these two options, the instant travel will be implemented this time in patch 1.19.

Please don’t worry.

I think that it's kind of pointless to implement a long version and a short version of airship travel, unless the short version costs more gil than the longer version or something. I mean really, of the two options, which one are people going to pick? The one that gets them to their destination faster or slower? It might be worth doing it once or twice for the novelty of looking over the game world as you fly by, but once the novelty wears off, you're left with a game feature that did nothing but waste the time of the developers that could've been put towards fixing or adding something else.

It's specially reserved for the people who need "immersion".

meh, you could skip the spaceship docking sequence in Earth & Beyond, but that didn't stop me from watching it most of the time. A skippable cutscene for the travel isn't a bad idea, because I'll watch it the first time, or any moment I'm not particularly busy.

I'm just puzzled where does the "mini game and quest(s)" on the airship fit in this grand plan...

Well they're talking about actually being on the airship. There's nothing wrong with making the world feel larger, or more immersion. Holy crap, you are all so cynical and jaded.

There just needs to be things to do on the airship. Look at the airship ride in FF12. NPCs to talk to, random encounters, hunts to do on the airship, special vendors, etc.

They could make it work exactly like FF12 for all I care. I don't think they're talking about skipping the cutscene, just skipping the ride once they implement it. In FF12, once the airship took off and you were in the air, you could go to the cabins and lay down and arrive instantly at your next destination.

They could even make it a gil sink and charge for that service.

But more importantly, aetheryte teleport still exists, if you must get somewhere instantly, you still have an option. Most people flying back and forth constantly will be crafters. and they have plenty to do on an airship ride.

I do agree, it was that moment where you can jump in an airship and go WC/Grab a drink or a bite to eat. Only about 1/10 times would I be in a rush to get there. Would of done it so the airship didnt take as long? maybe..
