Event/Scene Re-Watch Feature Coming (Eventually)Follow

Finally decided to go read the Japanese dev tracker, found one thing of particular interest. One thing I've been sorely missing, is the ability to re-watch events, a la Goblin Footprints/Bards from FFXI. I haven't seen this translated and re-posted yet anywhere, so I apologize if it has been, but I happened to find a relevant post...

My quick and dirty translation.

Hello.

Previously, in another thread there have been comments
in regards to re-viewing cutscenes and events - there are plans to introduce this feature.
What form it will take, and how it will work is still under consideration.

The implementation will take some time, but please be patient!

All I have to say in regards to this is, I can't wait, but I seriously hope it is a centralized thing. If I have to run all over the world to re-watch the cutscenes, that is a load of crap. I may as well just do all the missions again. They really ought to have something like an Operahouse, that works like the sphere theatre in FFX, where I can watch all the scenes and events easily from a single place, choose to watch them in succession, sort by mission type, etc.

It's nice to be able to catch up on the story that I forgot after a few months of taking a break or waiting for a patch, but not if it takes hours of running around searching for goblin footprints.

Am I the only one who's getting tired of being told "BE PATIENT" for basic functionality a year after release?

Yes, its starting to drain on my fanboyishness in a big way.

I don't really consider this basic functionality. Most games don't have this feature, even single player games. It's definitely a luxury item, and I'm not concerned that we don't have it yet. I am looking forward to it though, assuming it's centralized.

In the mean time, they do have rather extensive quest descriptions, even for completed quests we can read in our log, something else that most games don't tend to have.

Essentially much harder to implement than the goblin footprints, as it would mean loading entirely new texture sets and such (I'm thinking PS2/PS3 restrictions here. PC gamers should not have any issue with that).
Still, possible to do, but it would be harder. I know the way quests and cutscenes were setup in some of my former games, we would have been unable to replay them unless you're in the map, too. Just the way they were made. /shrug

City of Heroes/Villains had such a great way to repackage a story into a easy to read chronicles of your adventures. I wish more games did it that way.

Hey Cloe, I'm aware of that issue, but here's my take...

They could have done this in FFXI too honestly...

Why not just load the player into the zone, play the scene and then load them back to the theatre? I mean it would require a little more work, perhaps, they'd have to have a system for moving the player to that area instantly, and then moving them back after.

But it would be easy enough to do, and honestly... Honestly... There is just no excuse for not taking the time to implement the system like that. If you're going to require me to run all over to watch cutscenes, you may as well just not implement the ability to do so.

I want to be able to view all my cutscenes in order. I shouldn't have to fraps them all to do that.

Players aren't the only ones settling for the path of least resistance... :)

I'd love to have a centralized way to view all the cutscenes I've unlocked. I took a break from the game for several months and kind of forgot what was going on. I don't remember some of the people in the new cutscenes I'm getting. Would be nice to go back and check them out in game.

Maybe not, but I'd rather wait a year for this feature than have it implemented on a per area basis.

Honestly, moving the player's location and moving them back shouldn't be an issue, at all.

One solution to this would be add a encryption layer to the video stream that records the output minus the interface into an AVI or some such - scratch that, really the format doesn't matter, as long as it stores the raw video in a compressed manor - each time you view a cutscene. The HDD overhead would increase with each cutscene you view, but it would be an epsilon increase. You would be taking up more HDD space per update than you would be on cutscene videos.

By doing it in that way, the videos can get away with being dynamic (show your character no matter your hairstyle or gear) but still not greatly increase the overhead for loading up old cutscenes.

Would be nice to get this feature again.
And it would make sense too since our chars are able to use the "echo" to see events of the past anyway.
They could add "fortune tellers" in every city where you can use the "echo" to watch unlocked cutsceenes.

It should be no problem to load other textures and whatelse for these cutsceenes because they already do exactly that with the current echo cutsceenes.
