Hi, I decided to give FFXIV another go a few days ago. I built a PC for this game, played about a month, was frustrated with the game and quit. Knowing it is still "free", I got the urge to play again. I almost went back to XI, but then remembered the 10,000 things I was in the middle of and it just sounded like too much right now. That's off subject though.

Anyway, I got a few general questions as I know some changes have been made after I left.

* Is there a way to search for someone online, equivalent to FFXI's /sea all "playername"?
* Is there a way to see how many people are online on your server at the moment? (FFXI: /sea all)
* I understand they are making changes to make partying more applicable. Is there a way to actually search for a party or look for other people searching for a party?
* Are most players hanging out in a single location? I started a new character in Gridania and have seen very few other players, even at leve counters and camps.

I'll probably have more questions soon, but I'll start with those. Thanks for any help.

The wards aren't linked, right? If I want to buy/sell things do I pretty much need to head to Ul'Dah? I would prefer to stay mostly in Gridania, but it sounds like that might not be feasible?

And back to the server population question. Before I left, I thought you could see how many people were online via the "party" menu. Was this removed or did I dream this up?

They got rid of it.

Correct, they are not.

Currently, Ul'dah Market Wards are your best bet for buying/selling from/to the community. the upcoming patch (1.19) wil lsee the introduction of chocobos and airships. At that time I plan on moving to Gridania. The only reason I am in Ul'dah (along with pretty much everyone else) is because it is a central hub. With the ease of transportation, the other cities will begin to be populated (imo). However, for now...yeah staying in Gridania will be tough for you (maybe) until later this month.

It would be nice if the wards were linked. I never really liked multiple auction houses in XI, and the retainer system in XIV makes it difficult enough already.

I agree. But hopefully once some of this core stuff gets taken care of, they will be able to implement a more stable system, either by adding better features to the Market Ward, or just breaking down and implementing an Auction House. Well see soon enough I am sure.

1) If you add a person to your friendlist you can see if they're online or not.

3) The current partytool has these features but not a lot of people are using it...

Kinda, just add the person into your Friendlist.

There is party search, however at the moment only JP players really use it.

Due to the patch revised Leve reward, all three cities are now populated unless you pick a low pop server. Marketwards however, is only populated in Ul'dah.

If you find Gridania empty during leve reset, then it's a sign that your server is empty. It is very populated during leve reset nowadays.

He wanted to know if there was a /sea all command, there is not. Adding to friends list is not the same, but that's just being picky.

Yeah, I would say the party search tool doesn't even count because no one does use it... I've been playing since CE and I have no idea how to use it. It's very confusing with duration and purpose and all this crap, that's probably why no one uses it.

It's easier just to do a /shout in Uldah for a party... sad

/sea all "playername"[/quote]

Even with the "all" it's still implying finding one person. Adding to friendlist does work.
