So I left my copy of the game at home, which is like 3 hours away from college, and my college blocks torrents of course. Also I won't be able to go home until like sometime in October but I want to start playing as soon as 1.19 comes out. Is there any legal way I can download this game?

"Hey Mom/Dad/brother/sister... I forgot to bring a game with me can you send it to me please?"

"Hey XXX... I borrowed a game from someone at college and they would like it back but I left it at home"

"Hey XXX... I forgot to bring <insert item here> can you mail it to me... oh and can you put a few cd's in with it (ffxiv)?"

Take a bus
Take a train
Drive home
Ask your parents/brother/sister/friend to visit you and bring it
Buy a new copy... they are cheap
Wait till October, it's not that far away I guess..

That's all I can think of really..

Nope, your only non-physical alternative would be getting someone to rip the disc and host it themselves. (Or host the install.) Which would take longer than the 3 hour drive or a 1-2 day mail, unfortunately.

true, I may go to my friends place and torrent it. Or I may just wait since who knows when the **** 1.19 is coming out or if it'll flop.

Three hours away? I am guessing that it could be mailed to you in a couple days.

Correction, they're back to full price now.

He already owns it, why does he want to buy another account?

Just knock on doors at the dorms and ask if anyone has it. Someone does.

For the most part, a 3 hour drive = overnight mail by default. Might be 2 days if it involves crossing a state line.

This. Free wifi isn't that hard to come by in any remotely decent city, which should be a given if there is a college there.

There's a torrent on the pirate bay that I've used for FFXIV probably 3 or 4 times now. Worked flawlessly every time. You're welcome to pay money again for a game you already own (lol @ DLC in 2011), even if that game is FFXIV of all things. Just don't get upset that I'm saving you money.

I thought I'd like to add to this that I tried the benchmark and got a score of 1650, but I kind of think that it wasn't recording right because the framerate only stuttered like 2 times. This was on the low setting. Also haven't they made it easier to run since the time this came out? On the official site it said I can play it on the lowest settings but I was only like 150 points away from not being able to play it at all??

As it says repeatedly, the video you see is not indicative of your PC's ability to run the game. It's just a pretty video to watch while the benchmark runs.

That said, you can run the game, it's just not going to be on very high settings. I dual box, and my second box is an old desktop from about 6 years ago now. Run the game on 720p with mid settings, it works fine for most things, I can still enjoy the game.

With my specs do you think it'll look decent though? I'm not going to play it if it looks like a ps1 game...

It's not going to look like a PS1 game on any PC. It should run okay, and still look good. Personally I always run with high settings but low resolution if it's a crappy system, then it just has a gritty pixel-y feeling that gets me nostalgic for games like FFXII. It by no means looks bad, and I'd rather have lots of high effects and a bit of a pixelated feel. Smooth surfaces aren't important to me really.

I can almost guarantee that there is a way around your college's proxy. I used to bring a thumb drive to school with the program on that, drag and drop and voila! ****, I could've watched **** at my high school if I was bold enough.

Go ahead and torrent it... torrent'in games and movies is actually legal if you have bought and own the actual product!!! (And don't subsequently copy it or re-release it to other people) ... so if you're against pirating it's technically not considered as such (also u need an account key which u can only get from paid version, so you're not "stealing" anything)

Stop talking out of your ***. I torrent stuff almost every week, but in no way it generally is legal. Not even in your dreams. In a torrent, where you automatically upload as you download, you are distributing copyrighted material to third parties - and it doesn't matter crap whether you intended to do so, knew about this or limited your upload speed to insignificant amounts either.

Torrents are an effective yet dirty way to get your hands on stuff - but don't delude the masses. In the case of copyrighted material (virtually every game, movie or audio data that was produced after 1950) it's just as much theft as stealing an apple in a supermarket.

And I don't care about your opinion on that matter either. As I said, I sometimes torrent stuff without, well, let's say: checking about copyrights either. But laws are laws, and if (in the rare case that he is not cautious) he gets caught, there's a chance he's convicted to a not-too-small sentence. Admittedly, such cases are still rare; but the hunt for data pirates has just begun, and nobody knows what will happen to the IP adressess collected now in a few years.

He's also allowed one Digital copy of the original, of course your big wig lawyers like to twist the DMCA to there will and state that the original is a copy Bla bla bla we all know that story. a copy is a copy and he's entitled to one. where he chooses to get it is entirely up to him. I'm not entirely sure but unlike the Movie and Music industry there is no Governing Sueage system for Gaming.

i'm sure the Rejected Insane Asylum Associates and the Mega ****** Association ******* are working hard to remedy the Gaming industry's rapid pirating trouble...for a premium of coarse.

The problem is not the copy. He's allowed to copy his own stuff to his heart's content. Even downloading the data is technically legal, as long as he owns or owned a copy (see steam; you are allowed to download the game data since you bought the right for private use).

The problem is that in a torrent, you automatically upload data while you download it, and thus break copyright laws by sharing copyrighted material with the general public.

No, you don't. It's called "leeching", you download without uploading. You just have to configure your torrent client.

Good luck not being blacklisted as a leech, and good luck convincing the courts that your IP was part of a torrent network, but not participating in an illegal activity.

Well, I've managed just fine over the past 20 years, but thanks for the well wishes. ;)

RIAA and MPAA have to show that you were sharing, not that you were downloading. If they can't prove you were sharing, they have no case. Your IP simply being there does them no good. One reason why most cases of RIAA/MPAA suits are thrown out, the media only latches on to the select few that they manage to actually prosecute.

By the way, how do you steal something if you pay for it? Last I checked, no key, no account.
