Quarry or Mining?Follow

Hello, I've finally found my craft! I like GoldSmithing/Mining. I enjoy mining, hear it makes money, and Goldsmithing is for Pugilist(my main class in the future) weapons as well as I like it.

So, that info aside, what is the difference between quarry/mine? I've been doing the latter, but see the first gets other items. Are those items better [for making gil] and where/how do I quarry?

Mining spots can be found using Lay of the Land. Quarry spots cannot. However they are commonly found in caves, and using this website: www.disciplesoftheland.com you can use their resource finder to pinpoint their exact locations.

What's better for making gil/leveling. I kinda get crap exp on lv2 camps in Drybone.

Frankly at this point you probably won't start making decent Gil from gathering until you are able to efficiently gather from Grade 3. As far as leveling goes. Grab yourself some Fieldcraft Levequests from the NPC in the Adventurers' Guild.

Nice choice, I'm also! :)

Quarry points can't be found with your lay of the land/prospect abilities, and tend to be near streams (black shroud) and in caves. You use your off hand tool (sledgehammer) for quarrying, and there is no mini-game. Just go up the the sparkle, quarry, and then move to the next spot it pops up nearby until you've used all your gathering attempts for that particular location (like a single normal mining node, you just have to move around a bit).

Personally, I don't find quarrying gives all that great of items compared to normal mining, usually things like quartz, slag, or scale bugs. And since it is very common for there to be mobs that aggro in caves, it tends be time consuming at best (swap classes, kill stuff) or dangerous at worst (if your battle class isn't higher ranked).

So if you are trying to make gil I probably wouldn't bother with quarrying. I do find it a fun little side diversion from time to time though! ^^

Yeah, I'd do field levecrafts but I level Lancer so....

They should make Field levecrafts a seperate category in my opinion, but meh.

It seems Quarry is kinda dangerous, and the items are not worth much. Do Quarries give a lot more xp though?

Not really. The benefit of quarries are this: Mining spots can disappear and are sometimes far apart. Quarry spots don't move. You may not always literally hti the exact same spot every single time, but there is a very small area that the quarry spot stays within. Knowing this you can use a combination of quarry spots and mining spots to decrease the amount of time you have to run around, and therefore increase your overall xp gain.

I gave up quarry a long time ago(I don't even carry the tool with me anymore) all it gave me bug dyes and minerals my blacksmith made into stones for my pug to pull with. The low level dye market dried up months ago literally.Mining's the way to go.I thought goldsmith went with pug, till after rank 30 the crafts switch all over the place.Smiley: smile good luck!

ok .. im having an issue with quarrying... im going to the exact locations that the quarrying nodes are supposed to be according to DOL maps and logs.. and there is nothing there for like 70% of the "supposed" nodes. I realize like in emerald moss the nodes move a few feet but in areas like thanalan and skull valley.. the nodes dont even exist.. whats the deal? any advice..

thanks

are all quarry points underground? If so how do you get to the north one in thanalan? i spent 30 minutes looking? And can you refresh quarry nodes with mining or it has to be only quarrying?

thanks

From what I've seen quarry nodes are usually underground or in a cave. As for the ability to mix up the 3 nodes between quarry and mining, you are able to do that to refresh them since they are of the same class family.

I LV Bot n Min at the same time cause when looking for one i ALWAYS see the other. Quick marco gear change and im rdy for either one I find. I get dyes and catalysts out the a** to sell and they sell super fast for decent gil. With leves you can LV both sooo fast and u LV just a bit slower if you hunt mats, but you will make decent gil if you just loop the nodes as I do. Also i have LVed ARM n BSM pretty much free from doing this.
