Already at 40+ with +2 weapons

banish/scourge 1 = 300-400, 22 mp, 2 second cast = average of 150-200 damage per second, 8-10 damage per mp.
Banish/scourge 2 = 350-450, 44mp , 3 second cast = average of 120-150 damage per second, 4-5 damage per mp.

WHY DO RANK 2 NUKES PERFORM 15% BETTER BUT COST DOUBLE MP AND TAKE 50% LONGER TO CAST? IT IS A DOWNGRADE IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE

Good question..

I don't play mage classes, so my only guess is that you should use all your buffs and power enhancing abilities to cast <Magic II> while spamming <Magic I>?

Not sure if there is a spell to reduce cast time / mana cost (uh I think there is?)... that's my guess. I'd assume its kinda like Cure I vs Cure II, larger heal but less mana efficient.

The healing spells are actually equally efficient(maybe 90% efficient), of course, you would rather just heal or sacrifice for 900hp once rather than waste 2.5 seconds casting some crappy 300 hp heal.

The damage spells are just whack, for rank 2 spells to be worth using they either need

+20% damage -1 second cast(so they do more damage in all situations, however you are only at 65% mana efficiency).

or +100% damagea. Basically double the damage and double the MP cost, but takes 3 seconds to cast instead of 2.

Despite the slight contradiction illustrated above (which is excusable, since nothing said in all capital letters on the internet is very articulate), it is apparent that higher-tier spells should have a greater damage boost than they currently have if, indeed, the sole difference between them and tier-I spells is 15% damage. However, if the case is anything like FFXI - and it may be - then the higher-tier spells have both higher damage caps and different resistance equations, making them better against the strongest targets.

For example, Blizzard I in FFXI may have better damage/MP ratio against many general monsters, but it'd be almost useless against high-level monsters, where it would be hitting for double-digit damage only. Something like Blizzard IV, having stronger spell power and/or damage cap, becomes more efficient.

15% more damage, but requiring 50% longer time to cast is still an incredible downgrade. Don't try to nitpick it because rank 2 spells are complete garbage and there's no situation where you would actually think casting them is a good idea.

Maybe... you could open the battle with a tier-II and then resort back to spamming tier-I? There's (the?) one use for them!

Bought attacks for physical classes are better than the baseline TP builders, also you can use them along to get more TP and damage done instead of waiting for auto attacks.

Magic offense skills bought for TP hit for 100 while banish 1 hits for 400.

But they give you TP, and Levinbolt II hits like a truck.
