Quote:
Hello everyone, Yoshi-P here.

First of all, I have to apologize for the briefness of this letter. Things are pretty hectic here, what with work on patch 1.19 well into its final stages, and I ask for your understanding. (I promise to write a nice, beefy letter next time!)

But let’s talk about 1.19. The team has been working like a whirlwind to get things done on time, focusing mainly on bug fixes and balance tweaks. I’ve been getting my hands dirty as well, test-playing all aspects of the patch.

I realize that many of you were expecting the patch to arrive this week, but right now the team is looking at a September 30 release. Certain contents are a bit iffy to make to the deadline, and because of this, there’s a chance that the date will get pushed back a few days. We want to deliver as much content as possible to you, but at the same time want to make sure that everything gets enough QA and balancing time. I’m really sorry we’re cutting it close, and ask for your patience for a while longer.

Now, I know this won’t make up for much, but I’m planning to release the patch notes early this time. Just for good measure, here’s a little preview of what’s coming in 1.19:
•An additional hundred item slots per character
•An additional fifty item slots per retainer
Details are on the way, so stay tuned!

Ah, I should also mention that FINAL FANTASY XIV will celebrate its first anniversary on September 30. To mark this momentous occasion, I’m planning a Letter from the Producer that’s “livelier” than usual. Will have more to tell soon!

Alright, I better get back to work. Talk to you again soon!

9 day delay? I guess it could have been worse, but still Yoshi-P should be better at staying on time.

Holy crap, they cut down the amount of **** I need to hold by making crafting simpler... ostensibly to combat space issues... then give me 100 + 50 + 50 more spaces to hold crap?

...I'm actually at a loss of what I am going to do with all of this space...

Still, I could care less about the delay, it gives me more time to finish my mining so I don't have to deal with markups on cobalt ore >_>

Hold it! That's only the first-level delay.
Both the second-level and third-level delays (the delay of the delay, and the delay of it)
are still TBA.

They are actually implementing the 1.19 patch to servers on the 22nd. It's just that the UI is so horribly unresponsive that you won't notice anything changing until a week later!

I couldn't resist >_>

Have they confirmed that it was supposed to be 21st before? Because I've heard people speculate, but all I've seen from SE is "end of September"... although I might have missed something.

Sorry did see this post just woke up..
@op No complaint here 100 more in inventory and 50 more to each retainer. I don't craft and this is welcome. Push back by a week was to be expected, a week more not a big deal.

Very, very happy with 100 extra spaces.
I throw so much stuff away. I've normally got 80/85 items with all the gear for other jobs.

This is great news indeed. I would like to point out that the September 21 release date was all speculation and Yoshi P never actually said they would release it on this date. That was all speculation. He has always only said that it will be released at the end of September, so he is indeed hitting his mark. If it is delayed by a couple days, it would be fine with me. It's a monster of a patch, so if it's only delayed a couple days I would still pat the devs back and say job well done. If by chance there was an official announcement for a September 21 release, I'd like to see that source since I've completely missed it and I'd like to see anything else mentioned in it that I've missed.

Inventory space is good. I'm quite good at cleaning out junk but still struggle. With materia coming and catalysts (I do DoL a lot) this space is very welcome news. Not too bothered with the timing remember this patch is going to be absolutely huge, I want it to be done right.

The 21st was indeed speculation based on the event coming up tomorrow. However, even though the 21st is technically the 1st anniversary of FFXIV (servers officially launched at 18:00 PDT on September 21, 2010 for Collectors Edition buyers), it would be more appropriate to consider September 30th as the true anniversary due to the fact that Standard Edition buyers had to wait until then to access the servers for the first time.

Yeah, I was expecting the literal "very end of September" from the start. Some delay is fine with me, too; I just hope the patch is good! (*_* )

I just got an e-mail from Click and Buy informing me that my account had been dormant for 12 months and that if I wanted to avoid maintenance fees I would have to buy something, deposit something, or withdraw something. I think my account has $3 in it as credit from the activation test fees. So I swing by for gits and shiggles to see what Yoshi-P has in store for the near future and I kind of think...meh.

Events centered around escort quests, ways to travel around an empty world faster, and more inventory space. Maybe in another year the game will be ready to start charging for. In the meantime, Click and Buy can eat poo.

QFT. Wow. I thought I was totally going to be uninspired by this patch, but this alone makes me pretty darn happy.

Honestly, the lack of inventory space and no easy way to mule things was the single biggest impediment to my enjoyment of the game

Ok, I was slightly disappointed the patch was delayed a week, but as we all knew the 21st was speculation, so I can't complain.

Then I got to the part about increasing inventory and retainer space, and all is forgiven for the delay! I am constantly juggling items between my 6 different inventories (main + mule), and always managing to just keep ahead of bursting at the seams. This is a huge relief, plus the reduction in crafting mats needed in the future just adds up to win. Combined with transportation and the slew of other changes 1.19, this might well be the patch that TRULY starts turning things around for the long haul.

Have they ninjad in some new gear? An LS mate pointed out some new Plate gear. There is a Kobold set (comes in plain, blue and purple) and a darksteel set (comes in plain, white and gold). I beleive the Kobold gear is what Yoshi was referinging to in a past letter (incorrectly translated to Cobalt).

Kobold Celata/Cuirass/Gauntlets/Sabatons
Darksteel Celata/Cuirass/Gauntlets/Sabatons

Presumably the Kobold gear, well the material to make the kobold gear since it appears to be a recipie, comes from beastmen raids. I wonder if there are gears for the Amalja and Ixial encampments.

The word Cobalt is derived from the word Kobold, so it's possible it's not a miss-translation at all, but that the ore and possibly items created out of the metal will take the name Cobalt, or some variation of those items will take the name Cobalt, while the others take the name Kobold, either way obviously coming from Kobold regions, most likely.

Excerpt about the relationship between the names...
Wikipedia wrote:
The name of the element cobalt comes from the creature's name, because medieval miners blamed the sprite for the poisonous and troublesome nature of the typical ********* ores of this metal

Some other examples of where the names of the unrefined and finished metals are different in name in FFXIV, in the Japanese version of the game, "Mithril" is "Reigin" (A more traditional mythological Japanese metal) Ore but is processed into "Mithril" refined metal pieces and equipment.

Darksteel armor, and mithril armor has been in the .dats for some time, it's highly unlikely we'll see any other platemail this update, but what other types of gear remain to be seen. I'm at least hoping for a doublet between canvas and dodore!

Found some more. It looks like there will be a new material "Felt" and it and Wool are getting proper items. Linen is also getting some new things

Felt Items - Hat, Doublet, Robe & Tabbard
Woolen Items - Hat, Doublet & Robe
Linen Items - Doublet, Robe, Trousers

Felt comes dyed in Teal, Blue, Red and Brown. Wool comes dyed in Black, Violet, Red and Grey

Also some other sundry items

Vizard - some kind of mask
Pince-nex - eyewear (clip on glasses)
Masks - new masks in Maple, Elm and Ash
Iron Spectacles - more eyewear

Note that all the items are rank 1 and have no stats to speak of. They probably will get proper stats when they are fully implemented, as i don't think it will all be vanity gear.

I am kind of guessing that these are either Masks that Lancers can use (I mean why does every Lancer in the Wailing Barracks get to wear masks, but the ones available don't favor them?) or masks that are 50+ Level recipes that will be implemented once level cap is raised.

I may be a year now but, IMO, the game was released about 2 years ahead of schedule. Another year just to catch up to what is required by today's MMO market.

Chocobos and airships won't do it alone.

Still need:
1.) Mail
2.) LS management tools (They have stated this will require a fully redisigned LS system)
3.) Further revisions to the Market Wards (please include the ability to directly warp to the retainer from the Item Search menu)
4.) Standard Party Search Flag
5.) /sea all inv - /sea all rank - /sea all job

This simply gets FFXIV to most basic acceptable level for the niche FF MMO market. Not sure if it really expands into new markets as they intended.

At that point, we can discuss what FFXIV does right/better, without having to lament all of the essential features that FFXI had that we are all sorely missing.

The way I see it, we are in a minimum 2-year beta test (some of us are even having fun, for free, despite the headaches). Therefore, the timing of the patches matters very little compared to the quality and content of them.

What the **** good is 100 more vendor slots going to do me?

I have to put my vendor, which just wants to sell crystals, in the Crystalier ( or whatever the name is ) section so I don't pay extra tax.

BUT WAIT!!

You cannot summon a retainer here.

So I guess I'll suck up the extra tax.

I go to every **** market section.

You cannot summon a retainer here.

Oh, I guess I'll stand outside the markets in this crowd of other people with open bazaars that noone is checking because they're just going and item searching the vendors that actually found a spot in the **** market.

SO WHAT IS THE ******* POINT?

I rarely put my retainers up for selling things, I have them both full with equipment for every class and materials for every craft... so an extra 50 slots on each is more than great for me. So the point is this extra space is good for people like me that levels up every single class and craft. Same with the extra 100 on inventory, between all the tools and equipment, I have only 30 slots for whatever comes my way.

Now with the airships, people will hopefully start placing retainers in all cities, not only in Uldah, so markets are not crowded.

Simplified math incomming..

Inventory + 100
(Retainers Inventory + 50) x 2
Materia filling inventory - 300
Crafting being simplified + 100
New U/U items - 50
NM drops can be crystalized - 0 (as they change into materia, they still take room)

Net result : -50

We might still end up with less space overall after this :P

If crafting is being simplified, shouldn't it be a negative value not positive, since it will remove space, not add space? Plus you have to add the X value of each thing ,like inventory should be 100 +100, even if you use the initial 100, you can just not add it, besides, we dont know if materia is gonna have their own tab, like the crystals (which would be great).

But if not, and its like you presented and everything goes to main inventory, yeah, we could end with the same inventory problem and overload of items.

My "+" symbol stands for "This patch increases capacity by ____"

By simplifying crafting, they free "100" spaces (less parts, less colored leathers and parts, etc.). The number 100 is totally out of my nowhere, by the way.

So if you reread my statement, it should be something like:

"They may be giving us 100 more inventory, plus another 50 per retainer, and simplify crafting, which should get rid of about a hundred items, but with the additionnal stress of crystalised materia and new Unique/Untradeable gear, we may still end up with too little space."

Also, I would be so happy if they would add the event storage NPC. I love the swimwear, I really do, but I hate the fact I am losing 10 inventory slots because of it.

Also, I would be so happy if they would add the event storage NPC. I love the swimwear, I really do, but I hate the fact I am losing 10 inventory slots because of it.

Okay, all I've seen are seals and fireworks. Where is this storage and swimsuit stuff you speak of?

You weren't there for the summer festival where you could get like 5 different color of bikini? (10 inventory slot total of underwear)

I know I wasn't around for it -_-

Played during release for a few months, even bought 3 months worth of Crysta. But stopped playing a few months in and only came back September first. Sad Panda :(

Oh well, can hope they do something similar in the future.

By now, we ave learned to love to wait.
Oh, the virtues of natural selection.
