DoW Skill Points confuse meFollow

I have mainly been focusing on DoL/DoH and haven't really picked a main DoW class yet. But recently I decided to go with PUG because multiple people told me it was a nice solo class and I prefer to solo most of the time.

I've reached Rank 28 and am started to be confused by the amount of skill points I'm getting per mob. I have a heavy FFXI background so perhaps that is part of the problem.

Confusion 1:

At Rank 26 I was killing Puks in Coerthas which was super confusing because I could kill Rank 35-58 Puks very easily but was getting the same amount of skill points even if the Rank was higher. So then I learned that skill points are capped at 10 Ranks above which still doesn't make any since as I was only getting 255 max skill points when at lower levels I would get close to 400 for that high of a mob.

Confusion 2:

At Rank 28 I accidently ran into a Rank 36 skeleton in Nanawa Mines and mowed it down quickly. I got 350 skill points!!!???!! Do not understand. I've peripherally noticed that skill points gain differs by mob but why and how??

Is there any resource available that explains these concepts? Or a chart showing how sp can (apparently) vary between different types of mobs?

Thanks for the help!

This is working as intended. In an earlier patch they moddified the skill point gains from soloing so that from levels 1-24 (iirc, please correct me if I am wrong) you would get higher gains per mob. Once you hit 25 the solo xp would drop significantly. It is for this reason that you don't see a lot of people shouting for parties lower then level 25.

This one I am not entirely sure about... could be just a bug, or something. Because xp gains should be determined based on enemy level vs. your level. (Unless perhaps SE has some kind of hidden modifier that takes into account other variables that I am not aware of.) Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Confusion 1:
At level 1 to 24, you have a XP multiplier (solo or not) which is as indecent as x4 SP at low level, iirc. Assuming a +10 rank puk gives you 255 sp at 26, a rank 60 puk will also gives 255 sp at rank 50 -- you have reached the point where the XP multiplier is "x1".

Confusion 2:
A skeleton is a tougher enemy than a puk, therefore it gives more SP -- families like humanoids, raptors, peistes all give more SP than puks, squirrels, puktraps and dodos.

There's actually a complete table somewhere, but I wouldn't trust it too much, as families within families also have different SP mods (that aren't shown in the tables made by Kanican). For example, you were actually killing PTEROCS in Coerthas, which give more SP than PUKS, as they have an additional WS. Hogs vs Boars, Green vs Red Crabs, and so on, all offer different SP from another.

And that sucks because it kills many EXP spots.
Just a few examples, please correct me if I'm wrong: nobody kills coblins anymore, nobody ever touches maidenbugs, people stay away from kobolds,...
The list of mobs people don't target, for the obvious reason that the EXP they give suck compared to the time and difficulty of taking them down, is pretty long.

I wish they would just give up on that system or at least simplify it to really reward people for taking on stronger mobs.

Thanks for the clarifications. I understand now but I still don't exactly agree with how everything has been implemented. Still too confusing. For instance, if a Skele is harder than a Puk well why not make the ranks match? So a 36 Skele becomes maybe Rank 40 and the SP scales the same its just the Ranks are different? Isn't that why we have Ranks in the first place? At first I loved seeing the actual Rank on the mob but now I'm learning it doesn't mean as much as I though it did. I would almost rather go back to the EP,DC,EM,T system if it meant the descriptions were a more accurate measure of mob strength.
