I am in the process of building my first PC. I got my case, fans, optical drive, and psu. I do some of the wire management, install optic drive, fans, and psu. I plug it in to see my led fans in my case glow and spin! And nothing... not a **** thing. My question is before I tare it all apart. Is will the psu not even turn on till a MB is installed or is my psu dead on arrival. It does nothing when I plug it in. Fan on psu wont spin either... please help.... :(

...why are you assembling anything before you have all your parts? That seems... unwise?

Why is it unwise? All I did was put fans in my case, an OEM optic drive, and mounted my psu... should I disassemble?

No, nothing will work until you get your motherboard, not even your fans. Your fans won't function until you turn your system on, which you can't do until you install a motherboard. Your PSU is most likely fine.

You need a motherboard to get your PSU running.

If you however still want to make it run...read this. Do at your own risk.

And speaking of which, some advice for the next time you build a computer...

Don't purchase anything until you can afford everything. If you buy your PSU now but you can't assemble your PC completely until the end of October, and if your PSU is bad, you could be out of luck since you most likely wouldn't be able to RMA it with the place you bought it from, since most places only cover items for about ~30 days. You would either have to instead RMA it with the manufacturer (which can take awhile) or you would just be stuck with a dead PSU.

It's better to just wait until you can afford everything you plan on getting so you can just buy it all at once. Then when you receive your parts, you can assemble your PC right away and find out if anything ended up being DOA, and if so, you can just do a quick RMA with the place you bought it from. Besides, the longer you wait to buy the lower the prices get, which is also good.

I guess emergency was a poor choice of words.... sorry :( as for the doa parts, the motherboard, ram, CPU, CPU cooler, hdd, and ssd should all be here next week. I had to make sure other bills went threw before I ordered all my parts. It'll be till end of Oct before I have my gpu and am up and running.

He meant emergency to settle nerves before he could get a breakdown.
