Would we get a new server to play on, or have to be with pc people who already played??? Have they mentioned anything about that?

No I mean have they talked about opening more servers once the ps3 version is released? Or are they using all the servers they need already?

They don't need more servers, but they do need to beef up the ones already there with additional clustering.

They made the mistake of trying to use the same server structure for FFXIV as they used for FFXI, without taking into account the huge difference in resources needed to run a modern mmo with modern graphics on that sort of infrastructure, as well as the extra resources used by their insane decision to have everything run server side.

As it is, a few hundred people on a server can turn it into a lagged jerking mess.

I can't imagine we'd be on different servers. We weren't on FFXI.
They would lose money too. I intend to buy on PS3 to dual box, and seems most of my LS are too. Wouldn't buy on PS3 if I couldn't stay on Lindblum.

Same here.

Ya I really hope they can keep us all together. Gotta pay SOMEONE to power-lvl me Smiley: sly Just kidding guys.

Beyond that, how do you guys think the game will actually run on PS3? I played FFXI on my 360 and had more lag and freezing issues than my PC cohorts. Will the upgraded software of the PS3 vs 360 make the difference? Or do the enhanced graphics and such bring it right back to the same level?

If you look at the "recommended" settings for FFXIV ( 1280 x 720 (720p) res, etc. ), that's what you'll be seeing on the PS3.

Edit:

FINAL FANTASY® XIV for Windows® - Recommended In-Game Settings

The following in-game settings are recommended to run the game smoothly.
Window Size and Display Mode 1280 x 720 (Windowed)
Ambient Occlusion OFF
Depth of Field ON
Shadow Detail Standard
Multisampling 4 x MSAA
Buffer Size Window Size
Texture Quality High
Texture Filtering High

If they were going to put the different platforms players on their own servers, this game would have come out for 360 as well.

No, they made sure to make the PC version with enough lagging and freezing issues of their own so they don't feel left out when the PS3 version arrives and has the same issues.

I thought the problem with the 360 is SE is against making their customers pay for a service to pay for their own service (yet they use click and buy?). Either way there has been nothing to suggest that servers will not be cross platform

Actually Microsoft stated that they wanted to keep their servers internal. (No cross-platform servers.) However, what you stated might have also been an issue. Iirc, FFXI players on xBox360 do not have a Gold membership to xBox Live in order to play.

Microsoft has stated that they do not want to spend the time and money to support MMO's. Each update must be sent to MS, where it is reviewed so that they can ensure it will not interfere with Live, cause console glitches etc.

They somewhat needed FFXI to fill the gap in 360 RPG's games during the intial years, but every MMO they support represents permanent time and money that has to be in place to review patches, updates and expansions.

Thus, no Champions Online, no Star Wars: The Old Republic, no FFXIV. They just don't need these games in order to be succesful. Also, the 360 is not nearly as popular in Japan.

Again I say... Umm... to bad?

There are some servers that are currently low Population, thos will have less people who know what they are doing and might be capable of helping you get started.

Having people at max level is only as much of a hinderance as you want it to be... **** if you get the aetherite points for all the magor cities you can make quite a bundel off of max level people who want teleports currently. Probly won't be able to do so soon though since the airships are on the way.

You won't need to play with maxed players.....they will be doing stuff you don't have access to.
There will be plenty of new people starting to play with, with the added benefit of maxed players to help with difficult content/advice when you need it/making gear for you.

Bessides which, you have the option to level up ALL jobs as subs (to access their abilites on your Main).

Because of this, most players are constantly leveling low jobs.
