So like the topic says, I just returned to this game after a year of being away.

When I first started the game, it was absolutely HORRIBLE. It lagged like crazy everywhere... there was nothing much to do. Not many people were working together etc etc. You guys know the list, I could go on and on.

I've been back for a week now, and I have to say I'm very impressed with the direction they're going. I play on a macbook 1.5 years old, and before i had to run the game on all the lowest settings, now I can bump them up quite easily to all the medium level settings and the game looks amazing. It seems like they've corrected a lot of issues with interface etc.

I for one am impressed with the improvements they've made, and now truly have hope that they're moving in the right direction.

I just came back too, question though - is the faction credit moving towards FFXI's missions/rank system? I'm still grinding leves but I seem to be earning faction credits, is that just used to buy stuff or will there/is there content surrounding it?

I love how in FFXI u'd do quests not for exp/gil but for mission ranks which open up storyline quests... It actually made running around cities doing all the sidequests worthwhile and fun.

Faction crdits are used to access faction leves. But i dont know much about them. I have never done one, andas such have a ton of faction credits saved up. heh

As state has mentioned, the faction points are used to obtain faction levs. The faction levs are special wherein they have higher rewards or offer equipment that can't be obtained anywhere else(onion gear not including the onion helm). Also, brotherhood of the broken blade and azeyma's shields have special levs that lead up to a special faction NM. These special faction levs are available once you hit rank 40 and each "line" consists of 3 levs. The first two levs cost 100 faction points each and are pretty easy at R50. They are kind of used to lead up to the NM battle. The 3rd lev consists of the special NM battle. Examples of these NM battles, see Operaion Pulling fangs, Wanted: mammoth and master, and Operation shuteye.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the 3rd faction. Their name escapes me a the moment, but those 3 levs consist of you stalking a mob and attempting to not be seen. The mob follows a pre-determined path and if they see you you have to return to the start and follow them from the beginning. I've done this lev tree only once, and I found it to be a massive pain in the **** and not worth the anima it took to travel to these places. These levs also give higher than average reward and or equipment.

Another point to mention is that although the faction NM's 'possibly' drop orbs that you can use to /trade/craft r50 gear, much of this gear has been rendered less useful because of the drops from the Darkhold Dungeon. Many items that once sold on the MW's for millions are now only worth a few hundred K.

Welcome back!

At R30 I would suggest going to Ul'dah and looking for party invites (/shouts). There are some wonderful SP party camps for that range. 40-49 Raptors @ Iron lake, and 40-49 Ixali @ Treespeak.

You can also solo leves at Horizon (R20 leves @ 3-5 stars) and Nophica's Wells (R30 leves @ 1-3 stars) with ease.

People do not focus as much on Leve-Link because the bulk of Link based SP bonuses are gone. You now get a lump sum at the end of leves, which does not seem change regarding the number of links.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I also have a few comments and questions.

A. Should I mostly be soloing or partying at R20? I'm an arc and a pug.

B. Is there a behest I believe it's called I can do at R20?

C. Check it out!!! It's not called a TOON! How the **** did this term leak into this game lol.
