You have the worst city layout, worst zone (black shroud aka corn maze), most copy pasting of terrain, worst music... All in my opinion. However...

You have the best grand company name, great looking emblem, nice colors, the coolest /gcsalute, and your airship won't require me to use an elevator to board! Gridania.... I choose you!

EDIT: This was kinda leading for you guys to post what GC you plan on joining!

I always thought the shroud music was better than the other 2 starting areas. Behind Coerthas & Mor Dhona.

Has SE made any official comments on plans for fixing the copy-pasting in the zones?

Ok don't de-rail this thread but I will answer this.
"We are currently looking into this." They are going to fix the maps/zones and redo it... but don't expect it for a long long long long time. I'd say another year if not 2 years before they fix it... takes a long time to build Rome, especially if you have to scrap it the whole city to move everything 200 feet to the left.

Yeah, they are. If you google up the Community Interviews with Naoki Yoshida, he mentions that they are planning on redoing the geography and terrain of the zones with an emphasis on adding landmarks, but the world map artistic design will remain the same. (Ie: Limsa will still be an island, Garlean Empire will still be to the northeast, etc...)

Cool thanks.

Sorry for the de-rail.

I always planned on making Grid my home once things settled down. Now I can. So long Ul'dah!

I'll probably join the flames, but I love Gridania. It was my first starting city.

When the airships and the chocobos are in, I have a feeling Gridania is gonna become the new spot to be.

It will be Adders' Nest for me.

I am going to resist following the herd and settling for Ul'dah just because a ton of other people are choosing it.

However the whole "Same GC Ifrit killers get better reward" thing worries me a bit...
So if you are on Cornelia and need a Conjurer from Gridania, I'm your girl!

I'll probably join Ul'dah. It was my home nation to begin with, and I like the vibe of the area. Plus, my linkshell seems pretty settled there.

Gridania would be my second choice. I may wait a week or two before making a decision, because I'm sure Ul'dah's company will be packed, and I'd like to see how that affects gameplay.

I must support my homeland of Gridania! No Garlean will lay a hand on Kan-E-Senna!

I'm sorry if this has been addressed before, but I vaguely remember a dev thread on the official forums saying there would be unique benefits in joining GC from a particular city-state - they said it was one of the things they came up with to make Gridania and LL more populated. Right now I haven't seen anything beside killing Ifrit with a party 100% from the same GC. Anything else? I'd like to join Gridania's GC but if it's going to be as dead as it is now in the future, I probably won't.

I'll be in Gridania. I have Lancer and Archer as my two favorite classes, only makes sense.

The company rewards don't match up with where the guilds are though. Unless that's been changed or is going to change. I think polearms are in LL & bows in Ul'dah. If that's part of your reasoning anyway.

Glad to see I'm not the only one going for Gridania! In my opinion it's got the best name and banner...plus it was my starting city.

I'm hoping once chocobos and airships are implemented things might become a little less focussed around Ul'dah. Maybe we'll see crowds of people round the Gridania levequest counter again!

I, too, will be choosing Gridania; I like the atmosphere, the salute, and the banner. Of course I'd rather reside in some gloomy, magical woods than on a dock or in a busy city! And, well, Gridania also reminds me of Windurst, and nostalgia ultimately rules my hand in the decision. :P

I really like the Gridania company name, the flag, and the general area.
But I really don't care for that salute at all. It's **** near identical to the Windurst salute in XI, and just looks silly to me.

Bit ridiculous to rule out a city based on the emote alone, but it just killed the whole town for me(Even though this is where I started my current/first character).
Rather sick of Ul'Dah, so I'm going to go with Limsa. Was my second favorite company before all of this anyways.
Though there's no telling if I'll actually get to experience any of this stuff anytime soon.

I guess when it comes to replicating Windurst in FFXIV, if SE is in for a penny, they are in for a pound.

Gotta catch 'em all, right!?

...because there's, you know, tall grass around Gridania and it warrants a Pokemon reference!

...I'm sorry, I'm being told that it was not, in fact, meant to be a Pokemon reference... and that, additionally, an adult who is that excited about a potential Pokemon reference is mildly creepy. Hm. Smiley: dubious

It was a pocketmonsters reference... Great success.

I actually read the title as "Giratina - I choose you!" at first.
