Which Grand Company will you join?
The Maelstrom (Limsa Lominsa):21 (22.1%)
The Order of the Twin Adder (Gridania) :42 (44.2%)
The Immortal Flames (Ul'dah):32 (33.7%)
Total:95

Poll should be self-explanatory. I'm mostly curious is all. :D

It's seems that it's going to come down to what my linkshell decides. **** you Yoshi for making Ifrit rewards better for parties from the same company...

I play the game with my two brothers. We're still discussing which one to join, seeing that it's best if we all join the same one.

I don't know why everyone keeps going on about not wanting to do Uldah becuase 'everyone is going to go Uldah'. Id say most of my LS wants to go to the other states either because of the storyline, where they spent most of the seals already or they just like the /gsalute.

I am going with the Immortal Flames becuase I primarily see Uldah as my home city from the storyline point of view and because I like the lore of the Uldan company. Plus no other company pledges their alleigance to a shrived grape (get it? Sultana)

I've had a little back-story in my head about why my character came to Ul'dah (starting city) in the first place, so I guess it only makes sense to stick with it.

I will be joining The Order of the Twin Adder, however my regrets are that I will not be able to obtain the Ul'dahn crafting pants with Craftmanship/Magic Craftmanship/Control on them, or the Lominsian pants with +5 evasion. However, I was a loyal citizen of Windurst in FFXI, and liked the more "natural" setting of the city there, and same goes for FFXIV. Gridania is just much more peaceful atmosphere for me.

In this situation, it's 'cause the opportunity to play with 3 guys on Warhammer 40k would be infinitely more interesting than listening to you be yourself and prattle on.

Try to keep your posts on-topic from now on please.

I am not sure I agree with the decision to make it so that players have to join the same company in order to benefit from grouping with eachother... It just segments your playerbase, and prevents friends from playing together for the best rewards.

Anyways, I'm going Ul'dah, because I was interested in Ul'dah long before players knew it would become the trade mecca due to geography. The fact that I'll have a large base to retrieve the best rewards with is, if anything, an added bonus.

I have a feeling people will find that the "bonus" is not as impressive as it sounds. It is probably insignificant such as a little more gil, or a little more seals. I am not letting the "bonus" impact my desicion at all.

They're probably trying to encourage people to go out and talk with others. The playerbase is eerily silent, you know.

I have the hots for Kan-E-Senna, but the Maelstrom seems safer for Musketeer-related items. I like the Twin Adder salute though, reminds me of FFX.. Since I can't decide, maybe I'll just go with that.

Segmenting the playerbase sure won't do that. SA is probably right though, and since then I think there has been some dev clarification that it's only for the lower level Ifrit anyways? Not sure, but hopefully it won't be anything major. Maybe some seals or something, but not anything like gear or an extra drop chance.

If they want people to be more social, there simply have to be more mechanics that require communication, and more reasons to team up.

In other news they've updated the Grand Company pages with new... lore...

And recruitment posters...

Starting to be swayed into joining the order of the Twins... The Twin... err what was I talking about?

Well if the Order of the Twin Udder Adder wasn't popular before, it will be now. Shame, I wanted to join the Order of the Twin Adder for purer reasons.

You want more social elements like ffxi... SE has to add HNM's (something like it) on a long respawn with high end loot to the open world. That created most of dialogue and drama between players save dynamis in early ffxi. Instanced content is not going to pull this off. I remember seeing this JP paladin in full Martial on the boat to Selbina. As a new player and thought to myself **** I want that gear and wondered where he got it and what it took to get it. It took a long time to get my set (camping the Kings) but once I got the it I felt a strong sense of accomplishment. I played several other mmo’s and NEVER had that same feeling after that. Whether positive or negative this type of open world competitive content is what made the endgame scene in ffxi truly awesome for me. All the forum squabbles and broken LS’s all added to the awesome comedy of the HNM scene. Those quick dashes to get to Fafhogg, racing against other LS’s were the most memorable. There is really no competition/collusion in this game between linkshells currently and it makes the game boring with little to strive for other than capping jobs. I think the player base on MMO’s has changed because everyone got married, settled down. Now the voice of the player base is a mix of younger players who never experience hardcore content and a bunch of aging players who do not have the time to commit anymore. Basically I feel that the mmo scene as a whole has become casual. Alpine chests are everywhere ><!!!!

Someone should ask for clarification about the whole loot is better if the whole party is from the same company thing. Official forums and there's the live broadcast http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=27911 soon, I don't use the official forums or twitter, so someone go clarify? =D

Hmm I did some searching and found this on the official forums:

Maelstrom (Limsa Lominsa)
Marauder
Lancer
Thaumaturge

Twin Adder (Gridania)
Pugilist
Conjurer
Mage-oriented shields

Immortal Flames (Ul'dah)
Archer (+Arrow stacks of 999)
Gladiator
Melee-oriented shields

Also caravan security missions can only be done for your company... but also those items are tradeable so that's not too bad.

I agree. The "bonus" should be clarified.

Now you are going to have people who are looking to gather a Ifrit Battle party but 2/3 of the population is excluded. I picture a scenarion where an LS is gathered together 7/8 and one the members is the wrong company and everyone is ... or w or some other nonsense.

If the bouns IS significant, then it seems to be a clearly devisive design choice.

The bonus only applies to the Easy Mode fight. Basing your decision to join a company upon a possible slight increase in reward from a fight that wont even be repeated by most people (i assume due to the fact that you can repeat the hard mode one) is silly.

I'm really surprised how many folks are siding with Grid. I am too, but considering how many people hate the area...

Personally I'm locked in, my adventurers certificate is for Grid... it would be silly to fight for somewhere else.

Fingers crossed for an amazing map re-design down the road.

I am pretty sure they are a bot. They seem to just mix random stuff in from the posts around and post nonsensical things and off topic links.
