I logged in today after almost a year. I played at launch and remember that combat was a bit confusing. I see they added auto attack, but how do I initiate combat?

I don't have my Quick Thrust as a Lancer anymore, as I assume the auto attack replaces that. But, I just stand there if Heavy Thrust is down getting beat on because I cannot figure out how to engage auto attack. Sometimes it would start and sometimes it wouldn't. I guess I really should just wait a few more days for 1.9...because playing as it just isn't fun.

Also, can we start a new character or do we have to delete the only one we have? Since it is free to play are they still charging for more character slots?

Some people have reported a bug in which auto-attack fails to active. I have never personally encountered this. Entering active mode and then locking on to the target and moving close enough to it should be enough. Your auto-attack delay also varies with your weapon.

You have to add a character option through Square Enix Account Management, but at the moment extra characters do not cost anything. I personally have 4 characters at the moment.

Thanks for the reply. I did think about being out of range and tried moving in as well. So, I just need to hit C to lock and should be good to go then. It definitely seemed buggy, it would engage sometimes and sometimes not. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

I'll go add a char on my account page, thanks I didn't know about that.

No problem. If you still have issues, let us know. Someone else may have a suggestion.

This bug rarely occurs, where auto attack doesn't start. Just takes a little getting used to I know I was confused when I first came back.

When I do encounter the bug, it's usually when I click on another mob while the current one is about to die. This usually makes the cursor be locked on in. Usually you have to select the mob and the cursor is spinning then hit enter or click again to lock on. I've always just clicked off the mob and then clicked on it again. After doing this, it works just fine. It's been a minor inconvenience for me, but it's never really bothered me. Hopefully this makes sense. lol If it doesn't let me know and I'll try to clean it up a bit.
