What's the funniest/strangest explanation you've heard with the new patch? Its hilarious the things people are coming up with :D

I had people in my linkshell tell me that 'Dated' meant:

1) The item was not within 5 Ranks of your current job.

2) The item was due to be 'fazed' out in the next patch. (I loved this one as 90% of my equip says Dated)

Someone else swore that synths are actually taking longer to do now. >.>

I don't see any difference in synth speed. Only difference I see is that you can't scroll up/down while a synth or ability is being used. You used to be able to scroll the list down so when an ability was available, the list shifted up and you saw it, then ya clicked it and while it's taking effect you scrolled back up so all 3 synths and wait were the only things visible.

"Dated"... just means you've taken them out before, they're no longer virgin :P

From the Twitter translations of the live letter from the producer:

Quote:
#XIVLive Q: Will you be able to convert equipment crafted with old recipes into materia?

A: Yes. The old recipes will disappear from the game, so convert all your beloved gear into materia and add it to the new equipment.

Hey now, not all of us do the deed on our first dates. Some of us are still 'traditionalists', ya know. XD

I've put about 6-7k xp on my Dated Bronze Saw and Claw Hammer. They still haven't reach 20% of the way across the Spiritbond box. Oh yea it can be converted.... if ya got the patience to xp that long before you upgrade to one of those newfangled simple recipes.

"Traditionalists"... may not do the deed on first dates, but that doesn't mean you're not coping the feel in the backseat :P

I heard that sometimes, when the fog rolls over the hillside and the night air acquires that mysterious chill, you can still hear the voice of Old Man Dated carried on the wind, crying out for his pre-patch recipes...

...Boo! O_O

so am i correct in the assumption that the reason my dated gear's spiritbond bar is barely filling up is because it's working as intended? ie new gear will spiritbond faster?

So then, in this case, "missionary style" refers to the types of robes and rope-woven belts one dons whilst adventuring?

It would be a fair assumption that they didn't intend for materia to flood the market on the first day. It will take months at the current growth rate for materia to reach the point where people have extras and people know which one is good or which one is bad. So, yeah, I hope they don't speed up the process in which the equipment gains spiritbond or whatever. My character already has a few items that are non-dated (NM drops, and a velveteen item apparently are not dated), they are growing roughly at the same rate as the rest of my gear.

that's interesting. i haven't had a chance to test out the spiritbond growth of my new non-dated crabshell hora (a useful weapon as a quest reward? noway!) so i wasn't sure. if you're right it looks like we'll be seeing spiritbond grind parties.

i agree that it's a good thing to not let us be swimming in materia the day after the patch. what drew me to xiv in the first place, in spite of its many flaws at launch, was the relaxed, slow pace. when yoshi took over, i was afraid we'd see the same frantic, get-to-the-next-tier type of gameplay that other popular mmos feature. so far, looks like i won't be disappointed.

Dated gear is trash left over from SE's Cluster @#%^ing of everyone time and hard earned Materials. the best thing to do with dated gear is to take it and turn it into Materia or to just vendor it. the base stats are better on dated gear but the gear itself is worse.

im taking my set of Dated Bronze Plate and holding onto it that way 7 years from now i can throw that sh*t on and relive the good ol'days
