Well the God of Fire is finally here to stay... Ok I'll cut to the point, 3 try's on the hyper fight.. Each time wiping before the 50% mark, as such i would like some feed back on attempts of others. What has worked, what has not. If you manage to kill him how did you do so, and so on. The rewards seem to be worth the time to study the fight.

What we do know is
Ifrit has stages for the kill (stated by Yoshi-P)
Each member must be 50 and out of dated armor
Armor mush be slotted with at least 1 materia per (with respect to the class)
Ifrit hit's like a truck
99th paper cut, and the grain of salt.

Well it is a given that healers should have enmity- and healing potency materia, tank should have enmity+ etc... fire resistance may not be a bad idea. Wish everyone luck on their attempts.

There's some really good information floating about on how to handle his abilites - he does new stuff every 20-30% and sub 30% it really starts to get crazy.

To my knowledge nobody has killed him yet. The people going for a first kill have stated that Materia is a neccesity at the moment - that even with new crafted gear, etc - they're still having issues doing enough damage to him and will probably need more powerful Materia to score a kill.

The best attempts posted have been around 20%ish wipes.

Oh wow, BG got him? That picture isn't loading if it's a killshot.

Congrats to whoever if they really did down him.

Vulcan Burst
Large AoE Fire Damage around Ifrit
800~ damage

Crimson Cyclone
Teleport to edge of arena followed by a linear dash attack towards the center
2000~ damage

Delayed fire AoE marked by a red circle on the ground
????~ damage

Radiant Plume
A lattice of dark void style AoEs
????~ damage

Signature move, Massive AoE + Massive Fire Damage
900-1800~ damage, hit the entire arena, used at about 33% health

In addition, Ifrit has various hit boxes, and four horns that can be broken. More horns broken appears to lower Hellfire damage. Hellfire can be avoided by destroying the spikes he places in the ground, they appear to be catalysts for the move.
