Hate making new threads honestly, but also don't want to clutter a completely unrelated thread with the subject.

Converting is simple obviously, spiritbond makes sense, but melding is confusing me quite a bit.
Example.
I have Whatever Materia I, and I'd like to Meld it to my Spike Knuckles. I don't remember if this was on the patch notes or what, but to do so, do I absolutely need to be a 23(The level of the item, no clue what recipe cap is)+ Smith? I don't have a ls or anything, so I've had no chance to talk to anyone about this in game, and there hasn't been a ton of talk about the system here yet.

I'm sure the NPC mentioned it, but sadly I can't really see crap in Thanalan. There's something about the brightness in the zone that pretty much blinds me to any text(A few things in game do that to me). The explanation was very long, so I imagine it was pretty **** important and explained this, but, didn't see it of course.

I really hope this isn't the case, but I'm feeling like this is exactly it. If so I have very little reason to convert or deal with materia at all(Armorer not making a ton of Pugilist gear, or any, now), and that just sucks. The idea of taking along your dated gear through a new means, or improving a piece that you really like the look of just sounds great to me.

When you choose to Meld, the Window will tell you what class and level you need to do the Melding, also the chance of success. Also every addition Melding on the Item with Materia in it (2nd, 3rd and 4th try) will be increasingly difficult as in the level required get higher and higher. Spike Knuckle should be Blacksmith.

Thanks for the reply. I had tried the Melding menu before, but I apparently never tried it with Materia actually in my inventory...

Anyways, the level needed is the same level as the item or higher, which is just plain terrible. Had hoped to actually use this system at some point, but won't be happening with my current job choice. Even being within the level needed to repair the item would have been better than this.

I think the first one is guaranteed success, then it gets less and less. At least that's what I remember reading about it.
