I agree with that assessment 100%. New player experience is still really really poor.

tl;dr version. "Its improved considerably with 1.19, but still has a long long way to go. Keep an eye over the next year and hope that Yoshi gets things done."
WoW -- Zaia -- Dragonmaw -- Mage 80 BABY! Alchemy 450
Also... Hunter 62, Rogue 52, Warrior 66, Warlock 43, Death Knight 70, Shaman Who Cares? ;)

FFXI -- Caia -- Retired/Deleted -- Blm 75, Alchemy 97
Pandimonium server - Rank 10 - Bastok

Zaela Rdm -- 35, Alchemy 45 -- Forced into retirement because I didn't have the right kind of credit card. Hope it was worth 18 bucks a month, SE.

"massive overhaul is still needed - but, without wishing to be too negative, it is slowly progressing and it may not be the complete train wreck once thought."

This is in his wrap up and its sad to say but over a year after its release and the release of the golden patch this is STILL the best review the game has ever been given.

i'm glad he acknowledges that the game is at least on a positive path, which i happen to agree with. i also like that he calls xiv weird, because it is, and that's part of why i like it.

Seems to me you cant help but put a downer on any good comment you try to make. True the game does not flow like the rest of the linear fun fair train rides, But that is some of its appeal.

The last time I saw a knight this white, he was praising the sun.

This is one of the best reviews of FFXIV I've read in a long time. The only points I disagree with are purely subjective... such as, I actually enjoy the crafting system, whereas the reviewer obviously doesn't like it. To some extend, you just have to say "to each his own" and move on.

Overall, though, I think this review summarizes how many people feel about the game, myself included. Clearly the game is moving in the right direction. Even by the end of the year, we will still have some pretty sizable improvements heading our way.
