Patch 1.19 left me a bit out of my depth when it came to the thing I like the most which is crafting. I'm hopping this is because I wasnt actually around at the time of the patch and that the information Im looking for was discussed at the time.

Looking to update my gear I'm facing what appears to be a decrease on my stats if I was to change to new gear (Felt I think it is).

Head: Linnen Wedge Cap: Craft 23
Body: Dodore Vest: Craft 26, Mag Craft 9
Waist: Vevlveteen Half Apron +1: Craft 10
Hands: Linnen Shortgloves: Craft 18
Legs: Velveteen Thights: Craft 9
Feet: Vintage Thighboots: Mag Craft 9

I have noticed that some Felt gear has a different stat than my current one (sometimes with control added) but don't see imediate improvments, am I missing something?

Depends on what you are looking for, for maximising Craftsmanship your current gear is almost highest, just take the craft pants from Grand Company as they give +12 crafts which is highest pants can give.

So just to confirm, the idea that the new patch brought better crafting gear to level 50 characters is incorrect.

I just though I was missing somehting or not looking for new gear in the right place.

Technically for Magic Craftsmanship/Control, yes there are better 1.19 equipment. However you have to remember Dodore is crafted from NM drop, it has to be somewhat better than normal yes?

Didn't want to make a new thread since this one seems to be relevant for my gear questions.

After skimming through the patch notes and trying to catch up (been a long time since I've played) I am confused as to how I should gear my character. I have a level 38 CNJ and am currently geared in Velveteen.

I'm confused as to whether or not all this "dated" gear is still usable? Should I be looking to completely regear my character, or is the "dated" stuff still feasible? What should I be thinking about when considering purchasing new/updated gear? Any general thoughts (high level) anyone can share?

Yea that also took me a while to get used to after a long break. Both from the gearing my classes up side of it and trying to get back into a crafting groove.

I didn't see any drawbacks to using dated gear aside from not being able to meld materia into it. Which isn't a huge concern on the way up to 50 and depending on the kind of money you have/if you could put in materia yourself. Now you have multiple sets of tiered gear to look into so it's possible to upgrade more often between the dated & new. I guess that would really depend again on the money you have(or stuff you can make yourself) and personal preference. To save money I think you could get by without upgrading every possible chance you get. If you have the means then sure.

The database here is a good tool to look into where you could improve your gear set ups and also plan for the future. You can look stuff up by slot & then filter it to show only gear for your class.

You can also keep leveling in dated gear,to build your spirtbond. Then when you get high enough to change gear you can convert your dated gear into materia. I have started to re-equip all my dated gear to get convert it all to materia.

Excellent. Thanks so much for the reply. After my initial skim through, I almost though I had to turn in all my dated gear for Materia to use to craft new gear.

I think I need to do some more research :p...

On a side note: it's nice coming back and having everything changed so much.

Cheers!
