We already bought Final Fantasy XI's Standard/Collector's Edition, and in a year they expect us to buy the game AGAIN to get proper content with this 'VERSION 2.0'?

You REALLY need to learn how to read or reread, bro.

It's going to be distributed free to everyone who already has an account.

Even if we did have to pay for it, I just see it as the largest expansion pack ever created. I really don't see why people whine about $50. If you live in the US and can't come up with $50 for an entirely new game, I don't know what to tell you..

Because most of us didn't get our money's worth the first time.

Even if we made the ultimate decision to buy the product uninformed and blind, we're smarter now. The game has to be really exceptional for us to make the purchase not to mention some of us blame the company for "making us buy the product" or something as silly.

Eh, for a lot of people 50 bucks is a fair chunk of their disposable income for the month... so while they might have it - it means having to give up stuff like being able to go for coffee with friends or do anything social at all.

I know when I was working in the service industry I was super happy when I got 3 bucks from the coffee tip jar. It meant I could afford to take the bus somewhere or maybe buy myself a tall can to drink or getting a "new" used book to read.

Just cause you're in a situation where 50 bucks is pocket change doesn't mean everyone is.

And nevermind there is a whole "value for money" argument going on here. Why should anyone who already spent 50-80 bucks on a steaming pile have to spend another 50 to get the fix. That's asinine. It isn't an expansion - it is a complete wipe of the original failure of the game.

They would have to be insane to think they could charge people with the original box for it. Thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case here.

This. Also, it's not an expansion, much less the largest ever created. The current terrain will be changed to zones in order to lighten loads on memory and allow for less copy pasta. The changes to UI and controls, the new graphics engine, a real storyline, ingame mail and housing... ect. All that stuff should have been in at the beginning so it shouldn't be considered 'new content'.

Ok, let's not get off subject though. SE is still not making anyone re-buy the game.
#17FilthMcNasty, Posted: Oct 16 2011 at 8:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Correct. They're just asking you to fund the development of the game BEFORE it's actually reached a state that is sufficient for most people to be happy paying. I'm not saying that people don't enjoy it enough that they should feel it's worth a monthly fee, but I am saying that if people did feel it was in that state then more people would be joining rather than leaving.

I work freight at the loading docks for a home depot. Far from a 1%er.

On a layman point of view, it is possible to even migrate our current characters over?

I think the current plan is just to merge the clients without any changes made(outside changes made between now and then) to character data.

I do wonder how many people would be turned off by this. I know that many people on release said they weren't playing because there was no simultaneous release. Not trying to start deep discussion about 'being left behind', but not being a part of launch is a valid beef imo.

Not only were they not part of last years launch, but by then it'll be a two year plus gap; not to mention that the way it appears now, PS3 will be launching 2.0 shortly after PC again!

Strange when people go mental over a post and in the end it turns out they didnt read it.. reminds of this person at work wasted 4 hours trying to work out what her email problem was (She insisted it wasnt working).

At the end it turns out it was a single email she didnt receive because it wasnt sent to her in the first place...

Seriously, did any of you actually read the announcement, or are you just jumping to conclusions based off of thread titles? It was mentioned several times that characters exp, gil, items, etc... will be transferred to FFXIV 2.0

I know about that. But can it BE done.

Just because they say it can be done, don't not mean down the road, IT CAN be done.

Ok, I keep seeing a few people worried about character wipes or trying to create fear that it will happen. Here is a quote from Yoshi on that subject:

Quote:
Yoshi-P:
If you mean wiping characters, then no. I said this before, but I haven't even given that topic a thought. When we first tackled the task of remaking the game, one of the fundamental principles was never to wipe character data. If we change that now, the entire plan will fall upon.
No matter how high the hurdles, we decided to never stop FFXIV service. And as long as we don't stop the FFXIV service, we will never wipe character data. If we couldn't do that, our conclusion would've been to stop service altogether in order to remake the game from scratch.

If that doesn't convince you, I guess nothing will.
