Just Purchased FFXIV.Follow

So, I just purchased FFXIV and it's making its way to my place soon. So, before the game arrives, and I install, I have to say I'm very excited. I've been playing WoW for years and I'm completely sick of it. I know about the bad reviews FFXIV has received since launch day, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of gamers.

But from reading up on recent reviews and some friends from other forums who play, they said that the game has been improved tremendously over the last year. So, I decided to give this game a purchase since the game itself does look beautiful. Also, it looks like a lot of fun, so why not?

My question for you all is:

How do you feel about the current state of the game since Launch?

I've been told "Don't purchase it man, it's garbage. Even after a year, it's still crap." So, this is why I came here to receive the opinions of the people who actually play the game on a day to day basis.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this game really takes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" to it's extreme. Take this for what it's worth, there are people having a great time playing FFXIV; I am one of them. There are also people jumping ship like extras from Titanic. It's going to be extremely hard to get a good feel for the game just from forums right now, opinions are too polarized.

The game has quite a bit of content to keep you busy; whether it is "fun" content I cannot tell you. All I can advise is come back here once you've played for a bit and ask any questions you have instead of just getting frustrated. Either that, or actively search out a Linkshell (Guild), it does make the experience a thousand times better.

This x1000.

Since the new patch, it's neigh-impossible to solo unless you have optimal equipment. Optimal equipment is going to take you money and/or time to get, and as a new player you'll be in the dark as to where to even start. You can solo just fine up to level 10-15 but after that, good luck to you.

You're going to want someone to XP party with, for sure. Make friends, early and often. As far as battle goes I have the most fun while in XP runs, especially in a party of 8 if everyone is good/can play their roles properly.

But yes, a linkshell is central to this. I basically assume anyone without a linkshell membership is an RMT at this point.

Since you already purchased the game, I'm gonna tell you to avoid reading this forum until you've played for a decent amount of hours. Let yourself be the judge, it's easy to get all the negativity here get to you and affect your enjoyment of the game (i.e. you become aware of flaws drilled onto you by the other posters, flaws that you would not notice if you had been playing with an open mind)

I've played the beta, (before I could go in I was a huge fan of those videos that came around youtube!) but after playing it for 2 days I felt that this wasn't the thing I was looking for...

I cancelled my pre-purchase and didn't really look back until the first few months of this year. (around may I guess)
Picked the game up for a cheap price figuring it might as well be a lot better since then, but I was wrong.

The game looks beautiful it really does, but sadly that doesn't carry a game to make it playable.
The UI is laggy, combat feels clunky (I actually liked it more before the "auto-attacks")

The targeting is a pain, it does not feel fluid and easy, which it should. Targeting a spell (healing for example) is even worse.

Crafting is fun, but lacks a "recipe book" like in other mmo's (Rift, WoW)
Fishing is something I actually like in this game it is a good fun mini game.

But those are all the good things I can come up with it. I can't tell you how the game would feel for you, but that is for you to decide. Have fun with it, I hope it will bring you more fun than it did for me.

Of course the reviews of people who still have stuck with the game are going to be positive. You have to enjoy the game if you're still playing daily. Don't forget that 90% of the population left the game because of how bad it is.

You already made the purchase and are looking for positive reviews. My advice is to not bother and just play it. You've already made your mind up anyway.

I just started for a few weeks, so far I am liking the game. Although that could change very soon, very fast.

Some of the current problems that I'm seeing:

1. Unfriendly servers. Good luck trying to find a friendly English speaking Social LS. I was lucky enough to join one after about 1 week of non-stop /shouting in public areas looking like a noob then messing around for another week utterly doing things alone.

2. Already Rank 16 but have not been invited to a single party yet. The party search function is as broken as it can get, actually it doesn't really work at all. With the Guildleve system setup as it is, I fail to see the point to even party at all.

3. Market Ward is incredibly messed up. If you did not start your character in Ul'dah, good luck to you on finding any starting equipment or starting craft materials. The Market Ward in the other two cities is as dead as ghost town and you will not find the items/gear etc you'll need at the start.

4. Equipments and gears cannot be sold to other players unless it is at 100% condition. NPC will only repair it up to 99%, so before you can find the correct crafter to repair it for you, gears that are worth tens and thousands of gil may end up being sold to NPC for a couple of hundred.

5. Every single site I surf, which suppose to contain wikia info on all the FFXIV info, are inaccurate. There is almost no way to find an accurate info such as recipes, items used to be sold by this NPC is no longer there... etc. No single reliable source of information provider available online, so you'll end up toggling several sites just to see which one has updated themselves. Not that it's the web site's fault since the game gets overhauled every few months or so.

I could go on but I probably need to sit down and think further.

Good thing about the game is the sweet *** graphics and everything that involves eye candy, including the little crafting mini games and what not...

Meh.. you make your own decisions. This game has come a long way from the beginning and as long as they "listen" to the fans and update it accordingly, it does have great potential.

Maybe you will be the 1 in 10 person who enjoys the game. The odds are heavily against it but it is possible.
