I played this game from beta to about 90 days post launch. Abandoned it because frankly, it was boring. Well, after reading SE's roadmap to 2.0 and PS3 launch, I am intrigued (yet, at the same time cautiously optimistic). Reinstalling and patching the game as I type.

Anywho

If you are looking for a good laugh, go back and read the hot posts from about 1 year ago. Pay extra special attention to the hardcore fanboys vehemently defend all the problems with this game which have been or are in the process of being changed.

Utter hilarity.

What's funny, is people bashed a lot of us so-called "fanboys" for saying that this game had great potential, if anything. Now, that Yoshi~P has shown the world 2.0 (aka "Potential"), a lot of those people are coming back slowly but surely.

Utter hilarity.

People will defend, people will attack. People will love, people will hate. Every one is in titled to there opinion.

Let me rephrase.

I was not speaking of the people that said this game had potential. ****, I played for 3 months for a reason. I thought it had potential.

I was speaking more of the people that vehemently defended blatantly broken mechanics and aspects that were clearly wrong with this game at inception. I speak of those aspects that lead to the "house cleaning" at SE and the eventual metamorphosis of this game that is currently being implemented.

For example:

http://ffxiv.zam.com/fcluster/gotopost.pl?mid=1286575115224272109

In this thread, I pointed out how the crafting system was broken based on it being an overly complex cluster-f. Without fail, multiple members of the "Defend a Bad Game at All Costs" mafia where quick to swoop in and point out that I was the problem, not the game.

Lo and behold, they have simplified the crafting system and made it more logically progressive (one of the many reasons I am back!).

I apologize for using the term "fanboy" as I, like yourself, am a huge fan of the FF series. Maybe, I should have used the term mindless sheep.

What else is utter hilarity is those complaining about Ver 2.0. Remember the survey put out by SE and how many people voted yes to the massive overhaul to the game if it meant it would succeed. Yoshi-p is just giving us what we asked for, and still it's not good enough. But in other news I hit the game back up, and enjoyed it! Random leve party in my first 30 minutes was fun went from 1-9 in a blink of an eye. Not to mention auto-attack is a blessing, god how my poor 1 key was so abused during the beginning of FFXIV

Yes, potential... to be potentially fulfilled in 2013, 3 years later, hurray. Hey, this game we released is utter ****, now let's charge a few people, throw a ton of money at it, revamp the graphics, and game engine...So essentially any game backed by a larger company has potential? Let's face it, on release, this game had graphics going for it, that's it. Even those were hard to get to run on max cause of poor optimization.

Yeah, all it needed was all new servers, scratching the current unoptimized graphics engine and build an entire new one, scratching the entire UI and rebuilding it from scratch, completely remaking the concept of classes and adding in every other staple MMO feature the original team had no intentions of putting in.

So glad you guys saw the potential - just needed to fire the original team and then completely remake the game.

I don't think it was an official SE video it was a player made video if i remember correctly. However it was considered a great tool at the time because SE refused to explain the surplus system and this player made video actually did.

Oh god do I ever. With good enough production values you can literally say that "the fatigue system gives you more freedom, not less" and have the 4.0 defense force giddy with agreement.

Here's the original thread from September 2010.

Favourite parts:

4:52 - "The idea of a fatigue system is so revolutionary that at first glance it sounds ridiculous."

5:03 - "When you really look at it, the system allows for more freedom."

You know that Korean and Chinese MMORPGs are accommodating Fatigue system now? It's actually revolutionary in a sense, many are following now >_> Of course they abolish it in Westernised version.

Well "revolutionary" in the sense that it adheres to strict governmental control in Chinese and Korean law, I guess. :P
