Just made me think of what obscure summons we could see on Summoner... Personally, I'd love to see Ivalice summons like Famfrit and Adrammalech, but considering they've never made their way outside of Ivalice, I'll hope for Fat Chocobo, Cait Sith, Siren, Quetzacoatl, Cactuar etc...

I am glad Dragoon has returned to its roots as a loner, though perhaps at the dismay of many FFXI Dragoon fans...

Yay Carbuncle. Heres hoping they get lazy and reuse the XI version, the cuteness would be too epic with XIVs graphics

In the previous series, someone could summon Ifrit as well as other people could summon Ifrit. So there would be serval ifrits in one world but I don’t want it to be like that, so people will have to fight each other to have the ability to summon ifrit.
Wait, what? Someone can claim summoning rights and keep them exclusively until they battle over it? What am I not reading right?

I'd go as far as to say there will be a time limit to use it's powers, to avoid abuse.

You're not reading anything wrong. It's too early to tell, but it could be an interesting idea. Rather than being the mainstay of Summoners, the Primals will sort of be like super 2-hours (or perhaps more akin to Primordial Brews). Only one group can have it at a time, and only by fulfilling very demanding requirements. Depending on the balance, I don't see why it couldn't be a fun sort of "ultimate weapon mechanic". Sure, it trivializes one fight, but if they make it so hard to get, it's only a once every two weeks sort of thing, it could be quite fun to sit back and watch Ifrit smack down some HNM once in a while.

I really wish he had elaborated on how that summon system would work. Either that or the interviewer should've asked to clarify it to some extent. Now it's all up to wild speculation over how it will work. This just seems very ripe for monopolization of what he hints at being a powerful resource.

I don't know. After seeing how poorly SE treated summoners in FFXI, I almost don't want to see Summoner in FFXIV. One job ability every minute (updated that after what, 4 years), summoning skill useless unless its over cap (which is one of the slowest skills in the game to skill up), pointless spirits for years, no pet+ gear for most of the game's lifespan, brew doing absolutely nothing for them in Abyssea, having no unique spell/ability, being tossed into healer role (don't summon lol) for most of the game by the community, enemy out of range bugs, pets still have AI, pathing, and ability use bugs... it just doesn't seem worth it to put it in FFXIV and have players go through a broken job again.

I'd rather see Blue Mage than Summoner, especially with the art style FFXIV has.

Agreed. As much as I'd love a pet class (hello, Shepherd), part of me doesn't want to face the incompetency of SE's design again; I was a Puppetmaster, lo those many years ago. Essentially, if SE can't figure out how to actually make a pet work, they shouldn't bother putting pets in the game.

He did to a point... you get your avatar summons witch lend you power, like carby and other avatar's that are not yet gods. And you get you GOD avatars which require you to defeat the avatar allowing you to summon him/her one time. That is clear. But you are correct there's still enough questions to sink a ship that need answering.

Pet jobs were implemented to a foundation that did not support them.

You can't 'fix' something like that. Unless you make a new game. A year of no fixes? 5 years? If the foundation doesn't change, neither do the problems go away. Deleting the job isn't exactly and option either.

I like the idea of a summoner class that can summon avatars and then having groups tackle primals so they can summon them once.

It's kinda like having summoners in XI except add the ability for groups to fight Bahamut so that they can summon him once during a fight to come in and wreck havoc.

I foresee something along the lines of defeating a primal and having it drop a stone or something that you can use to summon them once only to have the stone shatter afterwards.

Ifrit: I lead you my power that is held within this stone. Call on me in your hour of need.

Use stone, summon Ifrit, receive bacon.

Ifrit: RAWWWWWWWWWWWR! PEW PEW!

Ifrit: Now leave me be I got **** to do.

Dammit, now I'm wondering how this one group exclusive summoning thing will work when they implement the "dungeon finder" like service and you are grouped with people outside your server.

Batraal is a primal? I never got to that point in the game, so I really had no idea...
No other lore or mention of him anywhere else, so it just sounds kind of weird.

Battle Chocobos could be fun, but I'd sort of prefer it if that was just a class ability and not everyone throwing chocobo's at a mob.
The Summoner stuff was pretty interesting as well. It did always seem a little weird that thousands of people could make a pact with these gods and summon a portion of their power at will in XI. I hope they are able to make the standard pets interesting at least, and not Spirits 2.0

I'm almost positive this was a mistake/misunderstanding by the interviewer, and either the correction wasn't transcribed, or was lost in translation, or he just didn't bother correcting him.

Major difference is that, as has been said, Summoners were put into a game that didn't have the necessary mechanics for pet jobs. +pet stat gear should have never come to be, and instead should've had avatar stats scale with SMN stats (the way it's done in every other game with per classes). Their attempt to design the class as versatile to fit the subjob system is what mutilated SMN into /WHM for several years before they even tried to start fixing things. Then there's the irrational fear one of the developers had to pet jobs. My gut tells me it was Matsui (the same guy who is behind battle design in FFXIV), and I hope I am horribly wrong. That is, unless Yoshida is truly in charge and can pimp slap any idiotic notions of pet jobs being OP for A, B or C and keep them from getting in the way of development.

I don't see what the problem is with +pet gear; I think it just adds an extra layer to the customization of one's character. It also gives me the potential to make builds for my pets/avatars/automatons, which I find enjoyable. Essentially, I mean to say that there's nothing wrong with being able to gear for pet or self (or both at once); just because other MMOs do it on a very simple level (e.g., "Your pet is 70% of you") doesn't mean we should necessarily do away with the idea altogether. :)
