I have fleshed out some of the information in the wiki for Primals and Beast tribes. However there is still a lot of information and lore missing (and possibly some errors).

Primals

Beast Tribes

If you have any information to share or wish to speculate, please do. I am interested in people's theories on primals and stuff.

There have been 6-9 primals mentioned in interviews with Yoshi, 6 to match each prime element (Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Leviathan, Ramuh, Shiva), plus a roaming primal (Odin) and possibly a light and dark primal (not sure if they have a beast tribe). There is also talk of Evil Moogle Primal (hence the moogle weapon conept art).

There is a division between primal summons and normal summons (example given = a summoner class can't summon Ifrit, but it can summon Carbuncle). Also supposedly a free company will have the power to summon a Primal.

As far as beast tribes go, 5 can be speculatively matched with Primals. There are no Ice beastmen (Imps don't count as they are voidkin), so there is no tribe for Shiva, which suggests expansions into icy realms. Also Goblins and Qiqirn don't have any primals associated with them, unless they get the Light and Dark (Goblins = Fire = Astral Element & Qiqirn = Earth = Umbral element).

What are your thoughts, ideas and wishes for primals and summons?

If Imps are Beastmen (they are not), their Primal is Diablos.

I have some other random thoughts, but the first thing that jumps to mind: Has anyone actually said that Garuda is the Ixali primal? Sylph has always been a wind summon themselves, so Garuda seems just as natural a pick for either the Sylph or the Ixali...

That said though, it's somewhat unclear whether the Sylph even have a primal, as they don't appear to be hoarding crystals for one. Which means if Garuda is Ixali, Ramuh may not be the Sylvan primal at all, but some unknown beastman race.

Also, spoiler (regarding sirens):

The sirens mentioned in the smithing quests turn out to just be some normal hyur/elezen/miqo'te women. Though there may have been real sirens at one time, it's doubtful they were a beast tribe from what I can tell anyway.

As for hopes for "Summons" (non-primals)

I'm hoping for more obscure FF summons, like Quetzacotl, Cait Sith, etc. I'd love to see some more standard monster types that a beastmaster wouldn't have access to summon-able by summoners as well, such as Bombs, which were summon-able in FFIV.

Ixali are wind monsters. Sylphs are Lightning element in FFXIV. Also I vaguely recall somewhere in the story quest dialogue when you have to sort out a confrontation between the amalja and the ixali they say that they worship garuda.

But you could be right about Ramuh and another unknown lightning beastmen. I'll have to find some videos of the story quests or track down the sylphs dialogue. But in one of the cutscenses of the syphes there is supposedly a crest in their village somewhere depicting a lightning bolt, which may or may not link them to the lightning primal, Ramuh.

No, you're right I remember Ixali mentioning Garuda now. Are Sylph really lightning? It still doesn't make any sense to me that they are... Then again the elements in FFXIV often seem as if though they were slapped on in an afterthought.

Still don't feel like the Sylph are related to any primals, seeing as they always frown upon the other beast tribes using them, but who knows, we'll have to wait and see!

Oooh. Was watching a video of the r30 Main scenario quest . Anyone remember the Ascian that showed up? I wonder what they were all about. They don't seem to be Primals. Maybe they are just some lore lost in the Tanaka/Yoshi move.

Natalan Quest clearly indicated that Garuda is Ixali's Primal, she gave them the power to launch those crappy airship up on the air and defy strong wind to assault the Black Shroud.
