Would you change your name?Follow

#1 Nov 07 2011 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I thought to bring it up again.
If you could change your name, would you do it?

Q: With the launch of 2.0, will we be able to change our character’s gender? Can we change names?

A: Are you sure this is a good idea? Continue to give us feedback on the forums! As for the name, currently it may be too long… If we implement the ability to change names, we may want to reduce the length. We’re still thinking about it, so please give us feedback.

I personally would love to change my name to the original Leilani Wildfire... so I am very much for this change.
But what if you for example change from female Mi'gote to a mail cat character and your name is e.g. Minnie Mouse

I think it should be possible for both simply because if they change the graphics and my character doesn't look as cool or the same as it did when I picked my gender/race etc, I do think I should get a chance to change it to something I like more.

With that I think it is fairly obvious I should be able to change my name as well considering a lot of people use names that only fit males/females.

Right now I like my character and her name, but if the graphics change turns out in a way that makes me not happy with her anymore I would certainly want to be able to change gender and name along with it.

I would think it a waste of dev time to implement a change when it is us that chose our names. Let them focus on important things, Gender is fine as they are implementing new genders for some races.

So you think it's fine to be called a woman's name if you have a male character? lol

Many characters names reflect their visage. I think it would be necessary to allow name changes.

Although at the same time, its not SE's fault that a person would want to change their appearance to something that did not match their name so that might be an argument for not allowing it.

I agree that players who change their race / *** should have the option to change their names, and from a data-basing standpoint I am not sure why this would be difficult to achieve. On a personal note, I would probably not change my character's race/***/name, but given the chance but toy with the idea.

I would get rid of last names... it makes it pretty ridiculous trying to talk to new people.

On this point, I disagree. I think the two name system adds a lot of depth to character development. I do understand the problem it presents though, so I would instead like to see the implementation of a system, like the auto-translate system, that allows you to type the first name and then <TAB> to find the correct first / last name combination (based on "Online" player characters) that you need, or some such other feature that allows for simplified communication.

I agree with this. If they're going to keep the 2 name system then they absolutely need to figure out a way to make it less difficult to send a tell to an individual.

I thought XI was nice since you could select a player that was within view and then send them a tell by selecting a button. The way it is now, is very difficult and often tedious.

I wouldn't change my name, though depending on the models I may consider changing to a Manthra(Miqmanthra, not to be confuse with McManthra served at your non-local McDonalds).

Now if my last name were too long, I'd be a bit sad, and I bet some would DEMAND thier Adventurers Certificate be replaced to reflect... but that brings up another point... How many would buy a CE version of 2.0? Sadly, I think I would to go along with my US and EU versions. It's likely my fault SE is where it's at because I keep financially encouraging them to ***** us over with regional exclusives.

I won't change my name, but I'm all for giving the one-time option.

However, I don't think this should be an always-open feature. I don't want a loot thief to just change names to avoid persecution.

I don't think SE has any history to show that this would be a long term opton even for a fee... people demnded race and name changes for years in XI and only got the name bit via forced server transerfs as far as I'm aware.

I would prefer one name. Tried for ages to come up with a surname to go with Revco....settled on Reborn as I was Revco in XI, but I don't really like the surname.

Name change should be one off though. One thing I like in these games is that you build a reputation. Changing names would be good for people that didn't realise that, made a **** of themselves and want to try again. Hopefully they've learnt.....if they're still ****** then changing name won't help.

I think it should be one time though so people can't rip people off, then change name and get away with it.

I'm definitely considering changing a gender change for my Miqote so a name change option would be nice. However, I'm not sure if I would support name changes if it meant way shorter names or single names only. Two names adds a depth that I've strangely grown attached to.

Ok, clearly I missed the last line of the OP. I would say they should make both an option or none. I personally dont have any desire for either of those but if the option is added then I would add race to that list as well. If male mithra is to be added why only female mithra that can have the option to change to it? Still I wouldn't have the option at all. in 2.0 the game will be 2 years old I cant do with people changing names and genders all around me, theres enough of that irl already. :(
